NGHS Band Supporters:

The North Greene Band Booster would like to wish Mrs. Gass the best on her new journey.  Mrs. Gass has resigned her position as the North Greene Band Director.  She has the opportunity to work 10 minutes from her home which will result in her being able to spend more time with her husband, daughter, and family.  This was a very difficult decision for Mrs. Gass because she had built relationships with the students but it was the right decision for her and her family.  In addition to this information, Hillary Smith, Color Guard instructor, has also resigned.  Hillary was accepted into the Carson-Newman Color Guard and will have to shift her focus to her squad and to complete her college degree.  The North Greene Band Booster would also like to wish Hillary well on her future endeavors.

The North Greene Band Booster is a support organization for the North Greene Band as well as North Greene High School.  As the President of the Band Booster, once I was informed of Mrs. Gass’s resignation, I requested a meeting with Mr. McClain about what the next steps were for the North Greene Band program.  Unfortunately, Mr. McClain doesn’t have all the answers at this time, but he is working diligently to get answers for the Band Booster and the band students. Mr. McClain reported that he had interviews scheduled for the week of July 9th, which also included a Band Director.  The Band Booster was not the only support organization or group of students being affected at North Greene this school year. Mr. McClain is currently interviewing for nine teaching positions at North Greene.  Mr. McClain has committed to communicating with me when a Band Instructor has been identified so that I can share with the North Greene Band Booster officers/members.

The July 20 & 21 fundraisers have been put on hold at this time due to not having a band instructor or permission from the principal to have these fundraisers.  We can continue working on the sponsorships that the Sponsorship Committee was working on.  There will not be a band camp the week of July 16th due to a band instructor not yet identified by Mr. McClain.   Band camp for the week of July 23rd will depend on whether a band instructor is identified and whether the new band instructor can have the band camp during that week so I cannot confirm or deny if band camp will occur the week of the 23rd at this time.

It is very important that the band booster parents, members, and officers stay positive during this most difficult time for the band students.  We cannot forget that we are the support organization for the North Greene Band and right now it is important that we give the students, the school, and Mr. McClain our support during this stressful time.  I wish I could give you more answers but this is all the information that I have at this time.  I will try to keep everyone informed through emails or phone calls.

Best regards,

Dee Wilson
