With the introduction of The Sims 4Seasons, players' prayers were finally answered. Four seasons, new customizable holidays, and a variety of weather options became a principal part of The Sims 4. Experience hot summer days, snow, and blizzards in the winter, and try to stay out of the rain and thunderstorms during all seasons. Players can get an idea of what the weather will be like by viewing forecasts on the calendar; however, the weather can be unpredictable and ruin plans and storylines.
Thankfully, there are a myriad of options players can utilize to play Zeus, the Greek god of thunder, and wield the power of nature's elements. Need to clear the skies for a Sim wedding or create a thunderstorm for a storyline? There are ways to manipulate the weather in The Sims 4 organically or with cheats and mods.
Just like how players can enable and disable dust from the Dust The Bust kit, players can easily control the weather and its effects in the game settings. To do so, begin by clicking the three horizontal dots in the top right-hand corner. Click "Game Options" and "Environment" to find the options to change the lunar cycle and seasons.
Here, players can customize rain and snow options. Click these options to reveal a drop menu where thunderstorms, rain, snow, and blizzards can be removed from the save file. If players still enjoy the weather and temperature, but not the way it makes their Sims feel, they can remove the positive and negative effects with the press of a button. Sims will no longer freeze or overheat with this option disabled. Finally, the length of each season can be changed from seven, 14, and 28 in-game days. Longer season lengths allow Sims to get the full experience of each season and weather type. Changing the season's length, however, will affect the placement of holidays and other events.
Six new traits were added to the rewards store with Seasons. Players who complete whims and aspiration tasks can earn satisfaction points and redeem them for traits and potions to aid players on their game journeys. By purchasing these traits, Sims can become immune or have increased resistance to weather effects.
If players don't have enough satisfaction points to purchase these traits, they can be cheated by enabling cheats and entering the code sims.give_satisfaction_points X with X being the number of desired points.
Those who wish to bypass the rewards store may do so by entering cheats to equip traits. To open the cheat code bar on PC, press Ctrl + Shift + C. On the console, hold down all triggers. Make sure to enable cheats by typing testingcheatson. Only then can players begin typing the cheat codes for each of the six traits:
Surprisingly enough, there is a way to change the weather and season with an in-game device. It's an object that even Sims experts may not even know about. Dr. June's Weather Control Device can be purchased from build/buy mode for 1,500 simoleons, which is a pretty small price for an object that holds that much power. With this object placed on an active lot, Sims can change the weather from a variety of options, including cold, heatwave, blizzard, clear skies, hot, rain, snow, and thunderstorm. After pulling several arms and levers, the device will fire and cue an evil laugh from the Sim in control.
This device doesn't come without its own set of risks, though. If the interaction fails, the machine will backfire on the Sim and electrocute them. Those who aren't careful may add electrocution to their list of ways to kill a Sim. The risk of backfire can be diminished if the device is properly upgraded. Here are the seven upgrades available for Dr. June's Weather Control Device:
Tired of freezing temperatures and snow? Time for some fun in the sun? With cheats, the season can be easily bypassed, lengthened, or shortened. If only it were that easy in real life. After turning cheats on, type one of the following cheats into the cheat window:
The seasons aren't the only things that can be cheated. Anyone can play god by changing the weather directly with cheats. Like Zeus, players can manipulate lightning to their will by summoning a strike or targeting a Sim to be struck by lightning. Make it sunny or start a blizzard after typing these codes into the cheat window.
Several mods make controlling the weather easy. The Climatio Mod by r3m is catered to players of spellcaster Sims with the Realm of Magic expansion pack. With this custom spell from the School of Practical Magic, players of Neophyte rank can control the current weather, season, and future forecasts. It offers the same options to control the weather with Dr. June's Weather Control Device, however, the success rate depends on the spellcaster's rank rather than the handiness skill.
MC Command Center, created by Deaderpool, is one of the most popular mods in The Sims 4, and one of its features is the ability to control the weather. After downloading the mod, select the Sim's mailbox, click Seasons Cheats, and select between changing the season, the weather, or summoning a lightning strike. No more remembering long cheat codes or typing them in.
The UI Cheats Extension mod is known to make playing The Sims 4 easy, and it does just that for those who wish to control the weather. Right-click the season icon to the left of the time and date stamp at the bottom of the screen to set the current season. To set the current weather, right-click the weather icon to the right of the time and date stamp and select between the available options.
@AmeliaNG I've had sims die when in an NPC role from freezing too because they were in the wrong clothes. You didn't say which platform you are playing on or whether you play with mods, but I have found a workaround for this problem that will work on PCs and probably Macs. I play on a PC and use mods. The MCCC Dresser module has an option to force changing to a specific outfit for any sim. That way, when you see a sim who is not in cold weather clothing, you can change them to the appropriate clothing before they freeze.
If you are playing on a PS4 or XB1, then this won't work but there are a couple of things you can do to head it off. There is a trait that can be bought for so sims won't freeze. It's 2000 aspiration points. That will generally avoid a sim freezing if they have it.
@AmeliaNG In addition to @CGrant56's excellent tips, the method I normally use is I deactivate weather effects on sims. This can be done in the game save by going to 'Game Options' > 'Seasons' > and un-check the box that says "Enable Temperature Effects On Sims". Personally, I do this because of the issue you're complaining about... the sims do not always automatically change to the weather-appropriate clothes they need to keep themselves from 'overheating to death' or 'freezing to death' (life-threatening conditions). I see this as unfair and inappropriate to proper/logical gameplay, so until this (hopefully someday) is different, I uncheck this box & save settings.
I have been playing the sims 4 and using MC command center (MCCC) for years now but I only recently learned MCCC can be used to stop the invasion of the ugly townie outfits. For me this means no more time spending hours on making over townies because their ridiculous outfits break the immersion.
3. Fixingthe outfit(s) of one specific sim. Go to the sim -> MCCC -> MC dresser-> outfit commands -> A. use clean outfits to change all outfits of thissim to a saved outfit if one is available OR; B. Use load outfit to load the firstsaved outfit only for the category the sim is currently wearing, and bypressing this again it will load the second saved outfit, then the third, etc. untilyou find a desired outfit OR; C. Use random saved outfit to get a random savedoutfit from and for the category the sims is currently wearing. Pro: You preventsims from starting to all wearing a certain outfit, because you choose in theend. Also, townies will still get original outfits and might even pleasantlysurprise you. Con: If you only use this method it takes a lot more time to fixall ugly townies (so I only use it in combination with the other two)
- Afterinstalling everything, make sure to check if everything seems file. Do this bystarting a new safe with a male and female sim and go through (some of) theoutfits categories. This can be done byclicking on the sim -> Mccc -> mc dresser -> outfit commands ->load outfit. It will first load the first outfit, and by clicking load outfitagain it will load the second, then third, etc. If you see the delete outfitoption at the outfits you load, this is a good thing. If you only see the safeoutfits button while loading the outfits, there might have gone somethingwrong: check if you followed the installation guide correctly and contact mefor questions.
- Theoutfits work with female/male frames, not with the sims their outfit preference. So sims with a female frame will always get the female saved outfits even iftheir preferred style choice is male. This is the way mccc works.
