Hundreds of files stored in Dropbox, and now I get this "Unknown error occurred while accessing " message when I try to open any of them. Guess I'll have to start using my hard drive to backup my Dropbox files. [Profanity removed as per Community Guidelines]

Accessing files on Dropbox over a stable secure WiFi connection, through Windows File Manager or through a hyperlink in an Excel spreadsheet. In File Manager, if the file shows a check mark in a green dot, the file opens properly. But if the file shows a cloud in a gray dot (which is by far the majority), I get an error message trying to open it. The error message is different depending on whether it is a PDF or JPG file.
Yesterday I tried opening files from my phone, and the files that gave me error messages on my laptop opened just fine from my phone. That tells me that the files themselves are not corrupted, and suggests there's something in the laptop setup. But those files used to open with my laptop. And I need them to open with my laptop, because all I can do with them on my phone is view them.
Well, I don't know what's going on. I spent most of the day working in those directories. The cloud icon was replaced with a gray "X", and none of those files would open (PDFs and jpegs). Not all the files were bad (had the gray "X" and gave errors when I tried to open them), but it was the majority of them, say two-thirds to three-fourths of them. Now, I was accessing (or attempting to access) the files through Windows File Manager or through my mail client, not through the Dropbox app (version 170.4.5895). I did start up the app, and saw File Manager doing what looked like a refresh, and now all the file icons are document previews or have green checkmarks and there are no gray "X" marks. I thought that when I accessed the files through the Dropbox folder in File Manager, that would use Dropbox to open the files. Is that not the case? I always had the Task Bar icon next to the WiFi icon, so I assumed Dropbox was running in the background. Not so? Do I need to run the app?
At any rate, at this moment everything looks good. I don't know why, and I have little faith that it won't revert to gray "X" marks and error messages later. And I don't know why I could view all those files from my phone even when I got error messages on the same files from my laptop. That does suggest the issue was with my laptop, and not with the files themselves. Unfortunately, I couldn't work with them on my phone, only view them.
The form itself has been set to allow them to sync as they are submitted, until the project status is marked complete. It utilizes numerous repeats and allows for many photographs to be taken and submitted. I would note that the survey is set to allow unrestricted sizes related to submitted photos.
I have tried sending the survey on WiFi and on cellular, closed out of the app, and restarted my mobile device. I have encountered the error every time I have tried to submit. I am not certain what could be the issue, but appreciate any insight you might be able to provide.
Client has tried logging in/out, taking out the picture, and made sure the app/survey are up to date and has been submitting on data rather then wifi as per usual with their workflow and has now started having this error.
Hi! I'm just looking back at my correspondence with ESRI at the time, I think it was a bit random of a fix. \We had tried deleting the app, and re-downloading before reaching out to them, but they advised us to try again and it magically fixed itself. I believe the second time we deleted the app, there was an update.
We have found this a few times over the years, if something odd comes up.. wait a few days for ESRI to put out a little update and try again haha
I am not doing anything too fancy with the workflow - using the Directory Tool to read two Excel .xlsx files & using the Sample Tool to read in the latest ones. Using Formula, Select, Filter, Dynamic Input, Union, Join & Output Tools in the workflow. I am also using the Run cmd.exe Tool to stagger / delay writing to the output files but I was encountering the problem before that.
Thank you for all of the comments. The issue has been resolved. The user had an old password stored in her Alteryx server profile. She recently changed her Windows password & the Alteryx server profile password was not updated.
Question for Alteryx: Is there a clearer error message than "There was an unknown error executing the application. The engine reported status Error (Toolid: -1)" for when it is simply a password issue?
When you see errors like "II_Close" or "II_PushRecord", these are generally un-handled errors (hence the non-descript names) In some cases, I've found that while the error appears there, that's not always where the issue comes from/could be addressed. It's possible that something is wrong upstream, but was not caught until that tool and it didn't know what to do with that error besides give this non-descript message.
To test if the issue originates elsewhere, I recommend incremental testing using a tool container. Start by putting the tool that produces this error (and those downstream) in a disabled tool container. One by one, add one more tool to the disabled container, working backwards up the string of tools. Sometimes a tool will produce an error that was not displayed before and resolvin this error will help downstream.
In your image, there appears to be an error in the Dynamic Input tool. I recommend addressing this error first as it may resolve unhandled errors downstream. If you can share more information on this error, I'm sure the Community will help.
Just ran into this issue as well and found that our database was holding onto quite a bit of memory. With some small adjustments we freed up a little RAM and Alteryx once again ran without issue. So if you have Alteryx installed on a machine that also has SQL on it, and you are using Alteryx to read to and from that database from time to time, check the memory usage and make sure there is enough to go around. Hope that helps.
During the testing upgraded to 4.1 to use the gradual commit but if i try and install just the Network and Device configuration from the advanced option in the commit it get the attached error - not very descriptive and then seems to make the admin session either lock up or crash when doing any other action.
The main issue i have is that i also need to make sure that when a policy is committed the Network and Device config is not selected by default to stop it dropping the BGP peers but cannot find a way to do this - as per the below pic. This is going into a customer site so i need to make sure that they do not drop connections by mistake when committing rulebase changes.
We had the similar error (using 4.1.6, where commiting only Device and Network droped management connection and once caused dataplane restart), and our local support said that it will be repaired in version 4.1.7 (still have to test it, while i already have 4.1.7 installed). How to avoid it? Try to commit while checking both Includes.Had no errors that way. I think that only Policy and Object commit also commited Device and Network changes
The issue i have at the moment relates to BGP peering being dropped when certain changes are made to the config so what i need to find out is how to set it so that only policy changes are commited by default.
Been hammering it all day today and trying to work out what changes cause the peering/routing daemon to reset - there is another tech note about this but just says it is an open case and will be fixed in a futire release.
I have an install where i will be peering the routes through two layers of firewalls with multiple ISP routers (primary and backup) so need to make sure that traffic does not go the wrong way when commiting a policy.... all good fun!
All right, i did a quick test - created test user with my user who has superuser role, assigned custom role (read only with option to create reports and commit) on Device tab. Committed using only "Include Device and Network configuration" - committed successfully with no errors, changes took place - i could log in with that admin user BUT change lock did not disappear. If created test user did some changes, he could not commit because other user had lock. Did changes again with my superuser - changes test user password. Again, changes only in Device tab, committed using only "Include Policy and Object configuration" - commit succeeded, changes took place (! maybe i just don't understand Advanced committing) and lock disappeared. So be aware, while now commit works with no errors, there is still something not quite right. At least for me. Tomorrow i will contact our local support guys and we'll see what they can contribute.
