Hi all,
I hope this is the right group to discuss libfreefare topics but this list is mentioned on the homepage of the library :)

My question is if it is intended that the examples of how to use the library are licensed with LGPLv3? Is it possible to relicense the examples under a license like MIT or make it public domain? I ask because we want to link the library with a proprietary licensed source code and using parts of the examples would help us a lot to understand how the library should be used.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

You can link LGPL v3 code with a proprietary code. You have some
constraints but it is possible. That is the main difference with the
GPLv3 licence.

I agree it would be easier for you if the code was using a MIT
licence. But it would be less beneficial for the libnfc project.

Regards,

PS: I am not a lawyer and I am not the author of the examples.

Yes, I am aware of this :) But because most projects use the model (L)GPL lib + public domain or MIT documentation I wanted to ask if it is intended that the example code is LGPLv3. The problem is not to link the library to our code but the knowledge which is inside of the examples. Most of the code of e.g. the gtk+ library documentation is public domain which makes it easier to use the library. The library itself is under LGPL. So the library still benefits from contributions to the library.

To work around my current problem I am building a wrapper library which uses some of the example code which I can make LGPLv3 and link this one with our source.
