Biodiversity is the variety of all life on our planet.
Recognising that a healthy, well functioning natural
environment is the foundation of sustained economic
growth, the government is striving to put the value of
nature at the heart of decision making - in government
departments, local authorities, communities and
businesses.
Building on the Natural Environment White Paper
(the first for over 20 years), 'Biodiversity
2020: A strategy for England's wildlife and ecosystem
services' has at its core the objective
to halt biodiversity loss. Crucially, local authorities
and other public bodies have an important role to play in
achieving this aim.
This special symposium provides an invaluable opportunity
for local authorities, environment organisations,
developers, third sector organisations and other key
stakeholders to examine the government's latest policy
initiatives and explore practical solutions to preserve
biodiversity and protect our natural environment.
For further details about the symposium, please refer to
the enclosed event brochure. Do feel free to circulate
this information to relevant colleagues within your
