JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Athletics and Recreational Services is a key position
within the Student Services management team. The incumbent provides
leadership and administrative direction for the University's varsity,
intramural, recreational and fitness programs, and is responsible for the
operation of the University's various athletic facilities, which function
as an ancillary operation with substantial community use. Relations with
students, faculty, staff, alumni, corporate sponsors, and external bodies
such as the Atlantic Universities Athletic Association and the Canadian
Intercollegiate Athletic Union are an important aspect of the position.
Besides these responsibilities, the Director participates in the Student
Services team to address a broad range of student life issues on campus.

QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE:

We are seeking a dynamic individual with proven leadership skills
including the ability to manage and lead an integrated team in a results
oriented style. The ideal candidate will have a university degree,
preferably at the graduate level and demonstrated administrative
experience at a senior level in a university athletics environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated
capacity to maintain positive working relationships with students,
faculty, staff, alumni and community required. Sensitivity to the role
of athletics as part of the student life experience at the university
level is essential.

LOCATION: Killam Library

SALARY RANGE: $31,104 - $37,932 (Effective July 1, 1999)

JOB SUMMARY:

On a consultative basis, perform the following duties:

Staff the Computer Centre Help Desk. Maintain a comprehensive knowledge
of UCIS facilities, services and policies, in conjunction with a current
knowledge-base of the computing environment (hardware and networking
systems, software library, supported software and applications, control
and programming languages, etc.) in order to provide Help Desk consulting
services and assistance to university faculty, staff, researchers,
students, etc. Respond to a wide range of telephone, e-mail and in-
person inquiries including, operating systems (Mac OS, Unix, Windows
95/98), word processing, spreadsheet, communications, graphics, database,
statistical, e-mail, Internet software packages, and computing systems
and peripherals. Analyse problems and determine solutions.
Hire, train, supervise and prepare schedules for the Help Desk's student
staff.
Provide support for designated workgroups with regard to computing
issues. Provide planning/pre-purchase support, desktop support and act as
a liaison between the client and other members of UCIS. Provide support
for Kilcom1 subscribers; respond to problems with usernames, software,
printers, etc.
Supervise assigned student computer lab(s), including lab assistants.
Liaise with faculty regarding their requirements including, lab hours,
new software, tutorials, upgrades, etc. Install software on lab server;
set up print queues, boot images, etc.
Ensure awareness of current versions of free, shareware, and commercial
software products in order to maintain the software library.
Prepare documentation and present seminars on computing subjects as
required.
Provide programming support for multiple choice exams/scanning system.
Maintain and update in-house Call Tracking System.
Manage ACS Web and file servers (WWW, FTP and AppleShare services).
Provide contract programming services as required.
Perform further related duties.
Position reports to the Assistant Director, User Support for Academic
Computing Services.

NOTE:Each position has primary responsibilities for some duties and
secondary for others.
One position has primary responsibility for supporting Mac OS, the other
Windows 95/98.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor of Computer Science with approximately three years' related
experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
Experience with Mac OS, Windows 95/98, Unix, and common microcomputer
applications required.

One position requires extensive knowledge of Mac OS, the other Windows
95/98.
Good analytical, problem solving, communication and organizational skills
needed.
