Not easy, is it? I think one of the Wrigley's still use sugar. Double
mint maybe...unless they've given into the dark side.
Double bubble might still have sugar too.

We must change the way we live,
or the climate will do it for us.
Check out Sugar Cane Lane downtown.
I am pretty sure Trident has some gum that does not contain aspartame.
Sucralose (Splenda) is a chemical artificial sweetener too. One is as
bad as the other.
Just speaking for myself, I get headaches, rash and an insatiable hunger
after consuming anything with them in it (which negates the sense behind
a low-calorie sweetner). Many others find they cannot tolerate the
chemicals and find a number of other symptoms related to its consumption
including migraines.
In moderation, some don't notice any side-effects from the chemicals but
the problem is that people consume it in soda and other products in
large quantities - and you know what they say about moderation.
Aspartame has been linked to many health issues. Some believe it is a
Carcinogen. Hawaii is trying to ban it. see here...

Although hard to read because of the colours used, this site has some
info on Sucralose
Alas...Juicy Fruit no longer is made with sugar.

She asked for suggestions that do not contain aspartame...just thought I
would pass on some info on a possible choice.
now I know why you referred to it as 'bad'. I remember hearing things about
these in the past but have never known anyone or had such a response from
someone who suffers from it. I have never noticed any type of reaction to it
but will pay a little closer atention now and see if it causes any type of
reaction.
DO you have such reactions to small quantities or is it when used above
moderation?
Thanks, Ed
A single stick of gum with aspartame won't do anything noticeable. But
if I got into a gum chewing phase, I'd start getting the headaches after
a few days or so of regularly chewing it. I don't chew gum any more at
all cause of TMJ in the jaw.
Splenda was a little quicker (just took me a while to make the
connection). I was consuming the Jello sweetened with splenda after
dinner. I broke out in a rash within a few days. I didn't make the
connection about the hunger until I read about it. When I would eat it
as 'dessert' I found that a hour or two later, I'd be into the fridge
looking for something, anything to eat - it was insatiable! It was a
distinct change from my usual eating habits which included not eating
after supper.
When I stopped the Jello, the rash and hunger disappeared.
My brother in law gets wicked migraines from aspartame. He avoids it,
like one would, but once in a while it sneaks in. I started getting the
headaches bad last summer and I couldn't figure it out until I noticed
the new type of cereal I was trying out was sweetened with aspartame.
Didn't even notice the small print until then. Stopped the cereal and
the headaches cleared up.
And yes, there are those out there that can tolerate it better. My
brother drinks it in Pepsi and doesn't admit to any problems (though he
is prone to migraines but doesn't want to consider it's the aspartame).

Look closely. Doublemint contains aspartame. If it isn't listed, the gum
is too old to chew (and not surprising coming from a Dollar Store :)
Spearmint is still listed free of artificial junk.

It was the old packaging, 5 sticks, just like the Spearmint and Big Red.
Never checked the date! :)
