I just can't figure out why people call it the "Twenty forta May" holiday,
when in actuality the holiday only falls on the 24th once every seven years.
Keep things simple and call it the Victoria Day Weekend!

Queen Victoria was born on May 24th, 1819 and died in 1901. The holiday
falls on the last Monday on or before May 24th as far as I know.

Actually, I was correct :)

I know all that, but the fact that 90% of people call it "Da twenny forta
May" still befuddles me if the holiday only falls on the 24th once every 7
years!

On a more serious note, this is Canada. Why do we even observe this holiday?
I'm all for the long weekend, but there are people (Canadian people) more
deserving to have a national holiday in their honor than some British hag
who died over 100 years ago. Heck, if the USA can have President's Day, why
not rename our May holiday Prime Minister's Day?

It's already been renamed in Quebec.

No, not Harper specifically. All PM's. Think the States would ever have a
Nixon Day?

Darn! Other beat me to it.
However: Was going to observe that the USA has had a number (maybe
numbers?) of presidents they were (or are) not particularly pleased
with!
Have we, in Canada (and Nfld.) been just as pround of all our PMs. and
premiers.
I think not! Sleveens some; heroes others?

I can think of other noteworthy people/causes that should have the
name of a holiday instead of just a bunch of Prime Ministers.
