You know what about 7 months ago I asked for people's opinions on what
Convergy's was like and I heard relatively the same thing. But at that
point I really needed a job with good pay and so I went up there and got a
job. Despite what anyone says I've worked many jobs that are so much worse
then Convergy's. It has its downsides but really what job, besides being
rich and having your own private island where you don't have to put up with
other peoples crap, doesn't?

If you don't like it places like Dominion, McDonald's and Tim's are always
hiring for minimum wage and a whole lot more crap.

It's a call center, what do you expect? They all treat employees like crap.
There are more than fast food and call centers out there!!

I worked there for 3 weeks, working evening shift for the High Speed
internet (Comcast). Then I got a real job with an engineering company in
town. I don't mind Convergys, it is a good temporary job until something
better comes along, helps to pay the rent and grocery, and sitting in class
for two weeks for training is certainly easier way to make money than
cleaning grills at McDonald's. I wouldn't recommend make a career of it at
a call centre, unless you can get into management, but opportunities in that
would be few and far in between.

No doubt, it takes a special kind of person to work there and like it.
I worked there for 2 Years and managed to get on a specialty team
called..... POC I believe it was called. Before that I was on a Self
install team. Once I got out of the regular customer service racket, it
wasn't that bad at all. The only reason I left there is because of the
hours. 14:30 to 12:30 am isn't a great shift.

It is definatly a good place to work while searching for something
better.

I worked in their Halifax location for about 5 months. It wasn't
terrible; getting off at 3am really sucked, but with overtime I did
okay. I hated slip seating and having my bathroom break timed. We
worked ATT WIreless' US accounts; nasty rude people abound! But I bet
it beats working minimum in a fast food joint.

Sure does.

That is very weird getting your bathroom breaks timed. I guess even bathroom
breaks can't be very personal there. I guess some people just may take their
time but I don't agree with anyone knowing how long it takes me to pee.

Are there any good jobs anyways in St. John's?

Sher;

Not sure if this is your first job or not you are looking for, but in
any business where excessive breaks can create an issue with getting a
job done will be address...be it a break, bathroom...whatever. It's a
personal..impersonal thing...it's called productivity at work.

The reality of a call center is everything is measured, like a lot of
businesses, the same as a sales job where net sale is measure per
person. As much as you try to turn this into a "convergys sucks"
thread, grow up to the reality of business.

Well I have a better job then convergys and I know some people do take
advantage of breaks and what not, but I just wont like people timing me.

and if people are complaining about convergys why not look for something
else. There are plenty of work in Canada somewhere besides call centers and
fast food.

And I do not need to grow up, business' who treat their employees like shit
are not worth supporting anyways. If you are a mean business man maybe you
should treat your employees with respect then they will respect you and work
better.

Your right on the mark there, torbayguy. Everything and everybody is a
number at a call centre. But there are worse places to work for a lot
less money. I didn't make any 'Convergys sucks' comments; I just
stated what I didn't like about working there.

The reality of Convergys in my opinion is that you either hate it
there, your stats suck because you don't want to be there, and
everybody around you seems to be getting offline time and you're not.
OR you convince yourself you like it there, you work hard and impress
the right people and next thing your not on the phone anymore, people
are coming to you for answers and offering you new internal positions.
>From what I have seen there in my 2 years, you get from convergys
exactly what you put in. There's no union and the internal hiring is
judged by your stats and your attendance, not seniority.

So, in agreement with what torbayguy said: Shape up or Ship out!
