Barry got me thinking about food and I need to go grocery shopping tomorrow.
I prefer Dominion myself. I find it cheaper.

Dominion for me too. Here's what bugs me about Sobeys: Item X is on sale
for $1. So they'll put very similar items Y and Z under the sign but Y is $2
and Z is $3. I don't have time to 'study' the display in the G.D. store. So
I simply don't go there very often.

To be honest, I go to both. I find selection to be my motivation to go to
Dominion on Stavanger. That, and some of the PC products. Damn that Cashew
Toffee Crunch ice cream! Anyone tried that stuff? To hell with the pot Josh,
try getting that monkey off your back.

I actually go to both. Although Dominion does carry some products that
Sobey just don't carry. Gotta love those PC products.

I prefer Dominion as well, at least you don't have to have a card to get
their good prices.

Sobeys for me. Gotta like the air miles you receive + I find the service is
much better. A lot of folks at Dominion always seem cranky. Maybe it's just
me :)

picked up more stuff then we ever did at sobeys and actually saved $20

Sobeys - the airmiles are good - may be only 1 point for $20 but it doesn't
take as many for free flight as some other airmiles rewards.

Definately Dominion! I too find Sobey's to be more expensive and
their signs are deceiving in that things are marked down, but it is
really only on sale if you use that silly air miles card.

President Choice is another great reason for choosing Dominion!

Sobey's is always far less crowded anyway, at least it is in the new Mount
Pearl store.
I've always preferred Sobeys:
A. It's a maratime company
B. Sure, you need a card to get special pricing....who cares?, It's one
extra piece of plastic in the wallet, and you get Airmiles to boot.
3. I find Dominion carrys only 1 (maybe 2) national brands on all products,
and then their own cheaper (noname) or more expensive (PC) products.
4. When I go for groceries, I don't like having to walk past 5 aisles of
furniture and hardware to find a can of soup!! Ever since Wal-mart opened
behind the Pearlgate store, Dominion has turned into a grocery/mercantile
store, at the loss of space and selection.
E. You can't beat Sobey's when they have their Buy 1 get 1 free specials.

I find Sobey's produce is usually inferior to Dominion's.

Also, has anyone been to a Choice Chopper (Price Chopper) yet? I was at the
old Sobey's Square location. The selection is the pits (I couldn't find
most of what I was looking for) and the store is butt ugly...

Sobeys - I find that the store is generally laid out better (not so
confusing) and their produce/meats are better.

Dominion is unionized which explains the crankiness.

I find Dominion (Pearlgate) to have a much better selection then the local
obey's stores, also I find that Dominion's meats are much better

I go to both simply because they both have really shitty health food
sections. Mylittle brother and grandmother have sciliacs disease and my
brother is lactose intolerant to top it off trying to finf gluen/lactose
free foods is near to impossible in this town. Between the two stores and
Auntie Crae's you can sort of manage depending on if Domion and Sobey's keep
things in stock.

Speaking of the supermarkets, has anyone noticed the lack of customers in
the new Sobey's on Merrymeeting Road. It is in my neck of the woods and I
must say I enjoy going there because there is never anyone there. The meat
department is always full of the 30% off "use today or freeze" mark downs.
I just got back from there. I dreaded going because I never go to
supermarkets on Saturdays but there were only 3 customers in the store!

A couple of days ago, everyone in the neighbourhood, (I don't know about the
rest of the city) got a flyer in our mailboxes telling us to come spend $360
over the next 6 weeks and they will give us our Thanksgiving turkey free.
Are any of the other stores offering this? Could it be that the market
analysis was faulty before the building of this store, or is the boycott
caused by the construction controversy actually working?

I go there sometimes because it is close, for all those little emergencies.
I find the meats cheap there.

I would say that they fudged the market analysis. Lots of supply, but no
demand. Looks like they goofed on that one.
We never got anything in the mail telling us to spend 360 bucks and our
Christmas turkey would be free.
