"An unusual number of severe allergic reactions to swine flu
vaccinations have been recorded in Canada, where a batch of the
vaccine from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has been recalled"
I got the vaccine yesterday after supper. I was up all night with
chills. It felt like someone beat me half to death with a phonebook.
My wife had it the same time as me from the same batch she has not
gotten out of bed yet and its 2:30, she feels like I did last nite.
Makes ya wonder.
makes you wonder indeeed.
i've never had any flu shots and don't plan on it. I'll rely on my
immune system to do it's own thing if I get sick.
i think this whole H1N1 thing is played up.
http://www.healthzone.ca/health/newsfeatures/swineflu/article/728282
But no reaction at all would be a worry! Personally have had so many
inoculations and vaccinations over the years, dating from WWII and
prior to, that maybe immune to many things.
The minister was on media either Thursday or Friday afternoon last
week that vaccine was available to all. So finally I was eligible!
Having always availed of any vaccinations available; can remember the
smallpox vaccinations up to the 1960s.
At one time you couldn't even get back into Canada, even as a resident/
citizen without having previously been vaccinated (no options!)
against smallpox. Still have the yellow book that proves that I have
been vaccinated against smallpox.
Also that the vaccination had been EFFECTIVE. That was often referred
to as had the vaccination 'Taken'! Because if there was little or no
reaction one had to have it done a second time; after which it was
assumed that one was immune!
As result of those vaccinations smallpox has virtually been eradicated
from the world. And one gathers that new vaccinations maybe coming
down the line, against HPV and even cancer!
Anyway, around 5.30 PM went out to Bethesda on MacDonald Drive St.
John's arriving about 6.15 PM.
Very busy I was number 361 but was finished by 8.15 PM and then went
to s.market. Didn't feel actual vaccination at all, that's some fine
needle! Ladies had the whole process very well organized in a calm
friendly manner.
Next day or so very little reaction; so beginning to wonder if my
vaccination had been effective; in other words had it 'Taken'? However
two days later very slight soreness etc. So am assuming (whew) I did
have slight reaction and that the vaccine has been effective?
Ergo; no reaction at all means that either you are already immune or
that the vaccination was, maybe, ineffective!
I got it because my cousin died from it on saturday. I originally
planned on not getting it, but that event changed my mind. They said
she had underlying health issues....she was overweight, that was it.
I'm sorry for your loss Dave. My condolences to you and your family.
Being overweight is a serious health condition though, and not
something to be looked at as "that was it".
The pressure on the lungs and heart in an overweight person puts a lot
of stress on the heart forcing it and other organs to work harder.
The fact remains that the Swine Flu is no more dangerous than the
seasonal flu, in actual fact more die from the seasonal flu than the
latter.
Being overweight is not something I have any experience with. However
I can see how it can affect recovery from a bad flu strain such as
this. I had influenza last year and I had a hard enough time with it,
and I am in perfect health.
My gf had a reaction to the vaccine as well, chills in the night, but
really no big deal. I have yet to get it but will once the lines die
down. I'm scheduled to get the regular flu shot tomorrow.
Has anyone in Canada died from taking the H1N1 vaccine?
Really? Not according to your link:
"Last week, the WHO said checks on many of the 30 deaths recorded
following mass pandemic flu vaccinations had so far ruled out a direct
link to the vaccines."
That's 30 deaths that have not been connected directly to the vaccine
out of 65 million doses for a disease that has killed thousands.
You have a better chance of being hit by lightning.
..
sorry, you're right, i was looking at another link, related to deaths
ad confused the 2. my apologies.

Actually, this does not affect us here in NL as we did not have this
batch that was involved in the recall.

I have seen and heard this said many times but those saying or
writing it, when asked, have been unable to provide the stats to
show that it is an 'actual fact'.
I'll try again; do you have the stats to support what you say is
an 'actual fact', that more die from the seasonal flu than from H1N1?

Thanks for that link - everyone should consider all available
information when making their decision. Unfortunately it's
irrelevant, since Canada uses a different vaccine: Arepanrix, as
opposed to Pandemrix as mentioned in your link.

Can you point out to us where in that link is says a few people
have died in Canada from taking the H1N1 vaccine? I can't seem
to find any such stat in that link.

read the full thread before you get on high alert there carter, i
already apologized for my mixup in info.

I'm not in Newfoundland,,, nor is the other 98% of the Canadian
Population.
The other 98% of the population is not posting on a Newfoundland newsgroup
either. It's a fair assumption to make that one posting on a regional
newsgroup is in that region. Therefore, it's valid to point out that we, in
that region, are not affected by the recalled vaccine.
Right, so no one has died in Canada from taking the H1N1 flu vaccine.
Yet there have been a number of deaths, quite a few affecting the
young and those without underlying medical conditions from the H1N1
flu.
I'll take my chances with the vaccine.
What you haven't done yet is provide the Stats to support your
contention that more people die from the seasonal flu than from
H1N1. Maybe you haven't read the full thread?

Have you taken a closer look at that website?????????
It's written by a paranoid conspiracy-freak. She also has an article
about swine flu being developed in a lab and is convinced the whole
pandemic was manmade as a way to depopulate the planet. She has even
filed bioterrorism charges against the pharmaceutical companies she
thinks are out to depopulate us. She also has numerous articles trying
to debunk climate change despite the fact that the debate there is over.
Your original article made it clear. Thirty suspected cases WORLDWIDE
were investigated by WHO and found not to be linked to the vaccine. Why
would it ignore the so-called five "confirmed" cases from Sweden?
Easy answer. It didn't. No one in Sweden has died from the vaccine.
You've been duped by a paranoid conspiracy-freak who is one oink short
of a swine.
..
Have to agree with you Cloud. Seems to me that many people will read
whatever crap they can find on the net and believe it yet they can't
or won't read reputable sites and believe that. To many people make
assumptions on what they read on the net and actually believe it.
I have had my H1N1 shot 9 days ago with the only side effect being a
sore arm for a few days and yesterday I had my seasonal flu shot that
I have every year. The family doctor said something to me yesterday
that I agree with. He said while many people do get sick and some die
of seasonal flu, it is spread out over a long flu season with many of
the deaths in the older population. While H1N1 seems to be stiking
people of all ages and causing death in younger people. This flu also
seems to be making people sick and causing death much faster in a
shorter period of time. When was the last time you heard of a seasonal
flu killing 8 mostly young people, in a few weeks? This is what makes
this flu different and what makes it more dangerous.
Anyway... if you want to look at non-medical opinion, this is interesting...
http://www.google.org/flutrends/ca/
...but of course, you keep telling yourself that this flu season is like all
the rest....
David.

Interesting site. One would have to wonder where that peak would have
gone had the inoculation program not existed.
..
It would seem that Quebec must have foregone submitting flu incidence info.
