From the FAQ page at http://www.st-pierre-et-miquelon.com/english/questions.php

"Cell Phone Access - SPM Telecom provides GSM cell phone coverage for
their own cell phones. In some areas of the island, Canadian (Aliant)
cell phone reception is available."

SPM isn't on their coverage map, so you may or may not get coverage, it
will probably depend on where you are at on the islands; perhaps if you
are at a higher elevation you will be able to connect.

For the record, BellAliant (TSX: BA.UN) does not offer cell phone service.

The Cell phone service you can purchase at a BellAliant store is from Bell
Mobility.... BellAliant is a different company, just that the majority (and
controlling) ownership of BellAliant is the same company that owns the Bell
Mobility business.... and that is Bell Canada Enterprises (TSX: BCE)

Cheers,

David

just got off the phone with bell mobility, no luck which is what I
expected.
I told them where I lived, and asked if by chance they knew where
st.pierre was, and they didn't. So I told them it was off the grand
bank but yet part of france. total confusion.

I put it in the perspective of NB & PEI. In the end I'm still without

I was down there for 4 or 5 days last summer, save for one or two
occasions/locations I was always able to get coverage on my Bell
BlackBerry. Reception was very clear and data worked fine as well. Hope
that helps.

Because it is factual, people no more have Aliant cell service than they
do have Newtel cell phones. Different companies.

Seeing as you asked me seriously.. ;) ... here is my opinion on the matter.

BellAliant is a (relatively) local company with fantastic service and
surprisingly good call centers...

Bell Mobility (and their sister division, Bell ExpressVu) have good technology,
decent service, but very, very crappy call centers and equally bad billing and
account management practices.

When people are talking crap about Bell's service and are directing it
incorrectly at BellAliant, it does nothing but besmirch the good name that
BellAliant has worked hard to maintain.

I was in St. Pierre last year with my BELL cell phone ;o) and it worked, but
the signal wasn't great. In some areas it didn't work, but if I headed down
near the harbour the coverage was fine.
