I'll call in the morning anyway but just wondering if anyone else had
this issue.
Primary SMTP = smtp.bellaliant.net / SSL on / Port 25
Secondary SMTP = mail.1xbell.ca / SSL off / Port 25
You need two if you are connecting to a WIFI at work or home while in
range. One problem I find is that the failover and order of
connection on the iPhone is dumb. Sometimes say if you are on WIFI at
home and send an email it may take 5 minutes because its trying to
send it over 3G connection via mail.1xbell.ca. But it will send.

People are always pointing out here that Bell and Bell Aliant are
not the same entity.
Maybe you need to call Bell Aliant?

I have fixed the issue though after looking at countless forums. I
needed to use a Telus SMTP server. mail.telus.net.

What is happening is that BellAliant only allows sending/receiving sympatico
email on their own network (or approved affiliate networks), or else you have
to use the Webmail service. This is for security reasons, and is perfectly
standard procedure for ISPs.
You are using a cell phone that is using Telus's network, so the SMTP services
from Bell Mobility and BellAliant will not permit direct email use.
If you are on a wi-fi connection on a BellAliant internet link, though.. the
standard smtp1.nf.sympatico.ca will work fine.

Good, glad you got it fixed.

Actually no...nothing works when I'm on WIFI with any of Aliants SMTP
servers. It just hangs on Verifying.
With the configuration you have now, you are not actually using Sympatico
email... you are using a Telus email gateway. And you will most likely not be
able to connect to a Telus gateway from Sympatico internet address.
I recommend using something more "open" like gmail, for example, for a mobile
email service .. that way you are not tied to your network.

As for Aliants settings. I just used the same settings as what I have
punched into Thunderbird and I still couldn't send when on WIFI.
