Is there a number I can call in St. John's to report social services abuse?

Call the Department of Health and Community Services. Ask to speak to an
investigator with the department. They USED to have them.. I think they are
still there.

Also... Not knowing the reason you are doing this, I will assume its because
you have seen the abuse, and want it to stop; based on respect of our social
responsibilities. If so - as a taxpayer, thank you.

Yes thanks we need more ppl reporting the abuse! but also we need more
changes to the system bigtime. I know ppl who have been on it for over 10
years and these ppl can go to work there is no reason in the world they cant
they just got it to easy cause they are in the system why leave it.
I myself have come on hard times but am too proud to go n get this service
as I know there is ppl out there that need it more than myself. I am lucky
to have a family who helps out. I even went and started taking in kids to
babysit to make ends meet so I wouldnt have to use the system. I know this
isnt an option for everyone who is on Social Services but as I said I know
able bodied ppl who are on this and can work so why arent they forced too?
Or those on the system popping out kids left right and center to get more
money it makes me sick. I knew a girl once who was working under the table
getting social services and living with her working boyfriend. They were
taking the social services cheques and putting it in a bank account for a
down payment on a home ( can u believe the nerve) and here is ppl like you
and me trying to make ends meet. Of course a call was placed to the local
office and her assistance was cut off and all financial records were looked
into and she had to repay alot of money but still thats only one person how
many more are doing this type of thing?
well I have babbled enough and I am sure I have alot of you agreeing with me
on what I said but of course there will be the odd person who disagrees with
"ratting" these ppl out, Makes me think maybe the ones in disagreement are
one of the abusers or has been.

Have a good one all !

One side says the system is set up for abuse, one thing is for sure, it
needs revamping.

The other side is workfare, which has been tried and failed miserably in
Ontario, but the concept is good.

Things like wage parity for the task they were doing, would need to be
considered. Workers compensation/liability concerns, to mention just a few.

The other thing to consider is, will these workfare projects take away
positions from others? I think a conflict will occur as an result.

I think you better know for sure what your accusing someone of. If in fact
your wrong, the person may get cut off. Christmas is just around the corner,

Why would the unions go nuts, who do you think pays most of the taxes as it
is?

Worked great in BC.
Partnered with forestry, they trained people how to use chainsaws,
swingsaws etc. Started a horticulture program, tree spacing, planting
etc. Don't know if it's still running but it was a great program to get
people working. It was for people on Social Assistance (that's what they
called welfare then) and people on UI (EI).

well i know plenty of city workers personally that would go nuts if
sweeping the sidewalks or picking up garbage in the parks were part of
workfare....if it in any way takes away from someone already working.....

heres a thought...........general labor......to be done by able bodied
men and women , on social assistance as a precondition to getting a
check...... that would not cause problems with a union.....can anyone
name some......

thanks

Yeah, the workfar thing was tried in Ontario having them shovel snowed in
driveways, etc. The human rights people went nuts over this and claimed it
was an indignity to them and against there human rights, no one should be
forced to work. I though it was a bunch of crap, but what can you do about
it. Some people need SA others just want free money.

Make sure you know what you are doing, and what do you mean when you say
abuse. How are they abusing the system? It may only be technically abuse
but they may also be trying to make ends meet. There are alot of people
"abusing" the system, but most of them have to in order to get by. So think
before you act.

Why are you participating in nf.general? Apart from spewing about your
rights, etc, why is a disgruntled and obviously incompetant and insecure
federal tax employee who has done far more than Alan Baggott could do to
discredit CCRA hanging around nf.general and insulting a whole group of
people?

You are precisely the reason, not Alan Baggot, a number of people on
this list have no patience for the bumbling incompetence and lack of
intelligence many of us have experienced with CCRA.

Why are you on nf.general? It obviously makes you feel good to
denigrate a whole culture. Since you can't wear your white hood in
public, you do it on usenet.

PS, take a look at http://tinyurl.com/3u7sa from the Fraser Institute
and then you can take your obviosuly small brain cavity out of your ass,
wipe the diarrhea out of your eyes and apologize to the people you so
obviously enjoy denigrating, you KKK refugee. The graph shows a
multiplier of welfare cases in Ontario to be consistently 17 to 18 times
our number.

You're a good example how the feds defend so vigorously the right of
people with a lesser IQ than an amoeba to work for them and why things
like strippers get work visa, and how so much of our money is wasted on
incompetant bumbling in ad scandals and gun registries.

PPS your response to this is known already. Reactions of lower primates
like baboons can be fairly easily gauged and predicted when presented
with certain stimuli.

Apes and chimpanzees have been taught sign language, so being able to
spell a few words doesn't levitate you above the level you've already
established for yourself.

Answer the question. Why are you hanging around nf.general?

Also, since I assume you've read my cite, when do you apologize to the
group of people you've smeared, mister federal government employee?

No, my short tempered friend with the anger management problem, your
language and behaviour here has smeared your co-workers. Your posts to
Baggot indicate you have taken on the mantle of representing your
comrades. Thus, I am pointing out what your behaviour indicates.

In any event, you really need to avail of whatever EAP programs you have
whereever you are to control yourself. But I imagine you've been
coundelled on such behaviour before.

Indeed, you are behaving like a stereotypical baboon with sub-normal
intelligence for even a baboon. Why this conclusion? Because I am
asking you an extremely simple question you seem incapable of answering.

WHY ARE YOU HANGING AROUND NF.GENERAL?

I've asked you a very simple question. Do you need further explanation
of that simple question? You don't need to apologize. Your reaction to
the Fraser Institute's statistics has said it all and creatures of
sub-normal intelligence are incapable of comprehending what is required
of them when they have been bested.

Once again, Mr Ready-to-pop-a-vein-in-your-forehead, we Newfoudlanders
are waiting patiently for your explnation of why you find it necessary
to hang out in nf.general amongst people to whom you feel you so superior.

Egon,

I read the Fraser institute report... not sure what you are referring to,
but in 1998/99 we are second only to the Northwest Territories in the
per-capita rate of welfare beneficiaries. That, in my book, is quite bad.

Ontario is in the middle of the pack, just ofer the national average.

The total numbers are meaningless with a population in Ontario being about
20 times the population of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Am I missing something here?

David.
