I made an online purchase from a Canadian company in Ontario. The item was
shipped on May 16. It is now May 25, and according to Canada Post, it is
still sitting in Dieppe, NB. Almost 10 days after being shipped. Probably
won't be here until Friday. And they call that "expedited"?? And people
wonder why we sometimes get a little fed up with Canada Post's service.
Pathetic.

I never get any updates after Dieppe. The next update will be "parcel
out for delivery" and even that sometimes doesn't show up until after it
is delivered.

According to their website, an expedited parcel from Ontario to a major
urban centre in another "region" takes 2 to 7 business days. Today would
be day 7 with the holiday weekend. If you're outside St. John's, that
goes up to 11 days.

2 out of 3 of my last (and I mean last) online purchases "disappeared" en

That kind of failure rate screams sticky fingers somewhere local.

no shit.
and, according to the postman, Canada Post doesn't give a damn.....
but
if the postman fails to deliver those flyers, they (the postman) can get in
a lot of trouble.

Maybe he's the postman with the sticky fingers hoping you'll not go and
find out if they give a damn....?

Doubtful.
When he noticed I hadn't taken mail out of the mailbox for a few days he
started banging on the door thinking I may have been hurt.
He seems to be a good guy.

hahahhaa pkgs in NB for a long time!! What a joke Canada Post is, they
can ship a Pkg from BC to NB in 1 or 2 days and then it takes another
6 or 7 to get to NL! Canada Post is in obsolete dinosaur that does
not provide equal service to all regions of the country, we pay a
hefty price for the worst service available. If they go on strike fire
the whole bunch and start over with something much better. A friend of
mine lived in DC and ordered an item from Maine, it was delivered in
ONE day! Actually arrived 26hrs after the order was placed!

You're not listening. The tracking ends in Dieppe until it's delivered.
It's the hub for the Atlantic region. It hasn't been sitting there for a
long time. There are simply no more updates until it arrives.

As I noted, he paid for a package that would get delivered in 2 to 7
business days. With the holiday weekend in between, getting it today or
tomorrow is not outrageous.

If he wanted to pay for overnight delivery, he'd get it the next day. He
didn't. He paid for expedited 2-7 business day delivery and that's what
he got.

Using your American example is utterly meaningless. We don't know what
kind of delivery he paid for.

I know that its does not sit in NB you MORON! I am saying its takes 2
days to get to NB from across the country and then 5-7 to get to NL
( that is delivered to the door)

The American example for your information was 5-7 day delivery ( I
know because I was there and assisted in placing the order)

Canada Post is a waste of taxpayers money, contract it out for those
that use it!

Oh and BTW I have paid for overnight several times and not once did it
arrive on time and guess what NO REFUND from Canada Post just excuses.
The only thing that they can deliver is junk mail for which they get
paid a fortune from the marketing firms....

Most ground courier services are the same as you are stating for Canada
Post. If you order a package via Purolator ground or UPS Ground from
Ontario, BC etc it typically arrives in New Brunswick within 2 days,
often within 24 hours. It then usually takes 3 to 5 business days to
make it from NB to St. John's. Purolator Air takes 1 day from Ontario, 2
days (typical) from BC. Air service via Canada Post (XpressPost) is 1-2
business days between major centres in Canada, for example Toronto to
St. John's is 1 day but Vancouver to St. John's is 2. I order a lot of
stuff from all over the country for my business so I have a lot of
experience with shipping options. Also things generally take an extra
day or so with all options in the winter months due to weather delays.

BTW if you use Canada Post XpressPost service, the stated delivery time
is guaranteed. Ie., if the stated delivery time on the website (lookup
using postal codes) is 2 business days and it takes 3, then call their
1-800 number and they will either issue a refund or give you a free
XpressPost mailer for next time. I've done this many times and have
never had to argue to get it.

Like anything, you get what you pay for. There is nothing fast about
'Expedited Parcel'. It is a ground service and Newfoundland is always at
the far end of any estimated delivery times due to our geography. If you
want something fast, pay the premium for air shipping and you shouldn't
have any trouble getting it within 1-2 business days between major
centres in Canada. Add at least 2 days if you are shipping to/from a
rural location.

Yea, the delivery time between Dieppe and St. John's is lacking at
best. I don't know if I've ever had a package arrive on time via
ground.

Makes me wonder if Canada Post deliveries are at the bottom of the
priority queue for getting on the ferry to cross... or something like
that :-P

It shows he/she knows a moron when they see one. Too bad. You used
to be one of the more thoughtful and considerate posters on this

You do realize that Canada post is not funded with taxpayer money right? It
is a crown corporation not a civil service and as such has to operate in a
manner that is monetarily profitable.

They probably are. As are UPS Ground, Purolator Ground, etc. Ground
shipments to NL are very slow, period.

The complaints here are about service. Monetarily profitable and providing
good service are not the same thing. In fact, they often work in opposite
directions.

I was responding to the point about taxpayer money, also brought up here.
Pointing out that the post office is not sustained with taxpayer money, the
govt. does not give money to the post office, unless they are paying to mail
something.

Speaking of morons, apparently you don't know that this medium is
a Newsgroup (emphasis on 'group'), not a private conversation
medium. If you're going to reply to a post then don't delete all
of it, leave enough of the post so that readers can understand
what you are replying to.

Your post makes total sense. People have to realize it’s an island - it’s going probably take longer. I just mail my parcels well in advance or pay for expedited. We don’t have 6 day service like the US or have the population base to support faster basic service. Everyone want it’s all for nothing $$....
