Anyone know what this is about? Did they advertise it? I am not positive,
but I think they only changed it this morning. This sucks for me, since
country is pretty much all I listen to. What about DJ's? Are they the
same? I have been listening for a little while, and there is no DJ's on
yet...

Any info?

Apparently, it's now the new 99.1 KIXX-FM. Which means they're going to be
competing directly with OZ.....what a mistake! They should've stuck with
country.

Seems like they are pretty much the old VOFM. I guess NewCap didn't want
all of those CDs/MP3s to gather dust. They even have the Rick Dees
countdown on Saturday's and Sunday's, and a similar type of call in with
your opinion that K-Rock did. Why not just turn Kixx into Classic Rock, and
keep VOFM the same, instead of doing the switch that they did?

Q93, or whatever it is called now, seems to be off the air as well. Anyone
know if this is due to the thunderstorm, or are they going to undergo some
changes? Maybe a country AM station? Maybe just off the air? Any ideas?

KIXX is now called Hits 99.1 and will be playing Top 40 and some of the
remixes popular in the clubs. 590 VOCM will now be playing "hot country"
and K Rock stays with Classic Rock.

Apparently the ratings for Kixx dropped significantly with the introduction
to K Rock as the males moved from Country to the Classic Rock they grew up
with. Sux for those of us who like Country in FM Stereo or the old Cabin
Party show Saturday nights.

So Steele now has the three formats covered.

Interestingly enough, VOFM (as it was known then) tried the dance format in
the early 90s, but bombed at it.

I guess only time will tell.

I think it is about time someone started up a station like this. I find that
OZ is a mixture of new and old. This is the next best thing to the new rock
edge in Toronto and until someone brings a station like that here I guess
this one will have to do. I like it..........

Edge 102 in Toronto is awesome, although they say and do things on the radio
up there that they couldn't get away with down here. Too Conservative. I'd
love to see that format here though.

I wish we'd have that here... Just Matthew Good Band, Our Lady peace, that
kind of music... Sort of like Edge TV...

Ottawa had (4 years ago) the bear, used to be lots of excellent (IMO) music
like that.

Of course, you all realise the cycle won't be complete until OZ switches
to country format...

You know that song... "and the little one said...MOVE OVER...and one
fell out.." etc, etc

I'm expecting that VOCM/CFCB et al. will eventually become just
news/talk stations. I mean, does anyone listen for the music anymore?
Besides, the #1 stations in many markets are news/talk (Vancouver, for
example).

It could work. Local morning program (a la CBC) from 6 to 9, Bill Rowe
from 9 to 1, news from 1 to 2, another talk show (Peter Fenwick?) from
2 to 5:30, news from 5:30 to 6, perhaps a sports or music program from
6 to 8, then George MacLaran from 8 to midnight. Perhaps another talk
show and/or repeats overnight.

Of course, it'll be interesting to see what OZFM will do now. OZ is a
"Classic Rock / Contemporary Hits combination" (according to the sales
section of its website), and now that we have both a pure Classic Rock
station (K-Rock) and what seems to be a pure Contemporary Hits station
(HitsFM), OZ's ratings are sure to go down. Once that happens, I
expect the station to move in a more alternative / current rock
direction. But I don't think Geoff would allow a drastic format change
(i.e. country).

(Side note: According to the CRTC website, the Stirlings are applying
for a second St. John's radio station - no word yet what it'll be.
Another new local group is competing for the same radio slot. CRTC
hearings are expected in December.)

As for country: 560 CHVO Carbonear has been mainly country for years.
And considering it's so close to St. John's, it wouldn't necessarily
follow the lead of its sister stations in the VOCM service if they do
switch to pure news/talk.

Just my guess...

I agree, I used to get 89x sometimes when I was living in London Ontario.

Edge is not much on the edge anymore!

The day that news/talk becomes number 1 in Vancouver is as likely as a
return of the Brady Bunch sereis. Rock 101 (classic rock) and CFOX (heavy
rock) have been number one in Vancouver for as long as I can remember. Fred
Latrimoe at Kiss FM were number one for about a week until people started
falling asleep at the wheel listening to soft rock. Try telling Brother Jake
that he's not number 1 in Vancouver.
I like the change that kixx made, the only country music worth listening to
is the silent type.
I won't even comment on the Bill Rowe show.
