Quidi Vidi Lake is nearly completely ice covered. There was a notable decreased number of Wigeons, Tufted Ducks and Greater Scaup. The Greater Cormorant had succumbed to its injury overnight and its body was frozen in thin ice near the shoreline by the Virginia River Outlet. The gulls were feeding on a dead gull at the west end of the lake.
Continuing birds included:
Pied-billed Grebe
American Coot
American Wigeon
Eurasian Wigeon
Greater Scaup
Tufted Duck
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Ring-billed Gull
Song Sparrows
New birds to the lake (new finds for me)
American Goldfinch - near the boardwalk on south side - back yard with bird house and flags
Double-crested Cormorant - 2 near the bridge west end of lake
Red-winged Blackbird - 1st winter male at Virginia River outlet
