Headed north on a beautiful but chilly morning in search of the Wheatear in Pond Cove (long shot) and the Snow Goose at St. Barbe's (photos on facebook a couple days ago, and consistently found at this location in spring for years).
Pond Cove: No Wheatear, though my search was not thorough. In a somewhat residential area, so contented myself with a couple slow drive bys and a walk outside 200m away.
St. Barbe (Western Arm Brook, specifically): Major congregation point for Canada Geese and other waterfowl. Most asleep, so a bit of a "Where's Waldo"-type puzzle. Was about to give up when a Canada Goose adjusted itself and revealed a white-headed goose behind it. Check.
Still earlyish in the morning, so headed north to see if I could catch any migrating raptors.
Flower's Cove, at the Short-eared Owl spot: Raptor bonanza. Set up with a scope for 15 minutes, and had two Rough-legged Hawks, a Peregrine, and a small falcon that I think was a Kestrel. Lighting awful, with heavy backlighting, but still a fun few minutes. Also a Tree Sparrow on the ground.
On the way back, in Castor River: an unusually large group of Ring-necked Ducks. Estimated 150. Picked out three Greater Scaup amid them, but nothing more exciting.
