Simon Miller of Grand Bank, Burin Peninsula sent photos of a male Red-bellied Woodpecker that came to his feeder for the first time today (1st Jan).
Kevin Smart of Witless Bay saw a male Red-bellied Woodpecker at his feeder on 23 Dec. It visited twice that afternoon but never came back until 1:15 this afternoon. I only heard about this bird last night so went down to Witless Bay this morning to scout around for other feeders where a woodpecker might go. I actually didn't really get the chance look very well. There are lots of juncos, chickadees, Blue Jays in the area where there must be other feeders. Two hours after I left the Red Belly came back to KS feeder for the first time since 23 Dec. The feeder is right by his window so he wasn't missing it over the last week. It must be going to other feeders. If KS sees it again he'll contact me. He lives on Alderhill Road on north side if the harbour.
