One day last week, a neighbour of Cliff Doran's was fishing offshore
St John's, when a strange bird landed on the boat and stayed all day.
It was described as being the size of a Noddy (i.e. Fulmar). It was
pure white with bright yellow legs and a long pointy dark bill. MY
initial thought was Cattle Egret (allowing for some plumage
discrepancies) which regularly come to boats, but I'm now inclining
towards juvenile Snowy Egret. I'll quiz Ray in more detail when I see
him next.
