Chris Ryan and I spent yesterday (Sept 21) morning and early afternoon birding the alders in and around Trepassey. It was quite birds for the first few hours, with small mixed flocks at most stops on the west side of town (old fish plant area and main road between there and Northwest River). Among the more expected species were these highlights:

Indigo Bunting - first of the season (?)
Philadelphia Vireo - 3 (part of a notable arrival in the area several days before)
Warbling Vireo - 2
Blue-headed Vireo - 1
Tennessee Warbler - 1
Bay-breasted Warbler - 4 (also part of a notable arrival in the area several days before)
Wilson's Warbler - 4
Ovenbird - 1
Pectoral Sandpiper - 2 on a lawn/field as the lower coast

On the way home we encountered a decent flock of shorebirds at Portugal Cove South, but nothing unexpected amongst them. We also found a PRAIRIE WARBLER in the Bear Cove pit.
