we just got home from Kent's pond looking for him too, hoping to still
find him, after feeding him a little yesterday. We were there about an
hour, from 3 to 4 but no sign...hopefully today wasn't his last. If
anyone sees him tomorrow please email

I strongly advise anyone who is bringing food to throw it in the
bushes -- well in there. If you throw it anywhere the ducks can find
it, not only will they horde it but they likely be aggressive toward
the Sora if it tries to eat. That will spell the end (which is likely
inevitable anyways for a bird that shouldn't be anywhere near here in
February). Anyone throwing food for the Sora out on the ice or near
the duck isn't really doing much to help.

Kudos to everyone who have been trying to help this little guy
through.

No sign of the Sora, except a few tracks that MAY have belonged to it,
but not really clear. The snow is fairly packed and so the ducks are
hardly making a dent in it. I was at the location this morning. I
brought bread for the ducks and threw a fair scattering of seed,
throughout the trees particularly in amongst the evergreens, but,
alas, the ducks being the hungry foragers that they are, (they need to
eat too), managed their ways into the trees, and pretty much did a
thorough clean-up. I will look in again later this afternoon.

I fear the Sora is likely no more. I went back and stayed for an
hour. This time I approached the pond from the field and through the
brush. The snow was quite deep this way, but I managed to get through
without being noticed by the ducks this time. I spread a goodly
portion of seed throughout the the forest area there. As broke
through the brush and unto the snow-covered bridge, (careful there,
plenty of water at the bottom of the very deep snow), the ducks
started approaching me. So, I led them on a tame-duck-chase, well
back from whence I came and diverted their attention to a spot safely
away from where I spread the food. This worked perfectly, as when
they finished eating they went back to the pool and paid no attention
to where I came from earlier. Now I waited, for an hour. during this
time I noted that the ducks were not the only forest forager, as a
squirrel had noticed the food in through the trees, so, I am nt sure
how long before it will have it's cheeks bulging. Again, sadly, I
don't think the Sora will be back. But, I will keep my fingers
crossed for a while just the same.
