After a fruitless search for the Pacific Golden-Plover at Cape Race, Chris Brown and I found a colourful, male Northern Wheatear (photographed) in Portugal Cove South. At 1 p.m., the bird was feeding on the turf on the ocean side of the red house 'behind' the PCS Fire Station -- visible from the former (tarmac) basketball court to the right of the Community Hall.

Still present at the same location at 8 p.m. when I cautiously approached in my car. However, it was much more skittish/restless than earlier (it flew up onto the roof of the small red shed) and seemed to be preparing to look for a roosting site.

I drove around PCS this afternoon but was unable to re-locate the Wheatear.
