Virginia Lake water levels are back to normal. The morning started a little slow and by 9am the activity had increased. The Purple Gallinule showed around 8am and was still there on display for more than 2 hours. It wandered over to the delta and provided for full frame photos in great sunlight.

The adult female Blue-winged Teal, a few Green-winged Teal and Northern Pintails were feeding and preening near the delta. The adult male Wood Duck was amongst the domestic ducks.

Greater Yellowlegs were busy catching stickle backs. The Lesser Yellowlegs had been elsewhere on the lake and also came to the delta. There was a flyover by a Northern Goshawk and this was followed shortly by a Sharp-shinned Hawk that tried to grab a pigeon right off the delta.

The Osprey successfully caught a large trout. As it was flying away, a Bald Eagle began chasing it and both put on a fantastic aerial display. The Osprey held onto the trout and managed to keep far enough from the Bald Eagle to finally escape after a couple of minutes.

We did not see the Stilt Sandpiper this morning.
