ocenaudio is a cross-platform, easy to use, fast and functional audio editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users.
No matter how many files are open, ocenaudio always remains responsive. Time-consuming tasks (such as opening and saving audio files, or applying effects) run in background, allowing you to work on other files.
The development of ocenaudio began when a brazilian research group at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (LINSE) needed an easy-to-use audio editor loaded with features such as multiple file formats support, spectral analysis and audio signal generation. ocenaudio development focuses primarily on usability, providing the user with a cohesive and intuitive audio editing and analysis tool.
1. What license is OcenAudio released under?
The current version of ocenaudio fits better as a Donationware. It is a non-cost and fully operational software. Ocenaudio can be used for commercial interest (music production and performance for example), but cannot be sold by third parties.
2. Will there always be a free version?
We are evaluating the feasibility of creating a pro version of ocenaudio (paid version) with extra features, but we will keep a free version available with the current available features.
8. Where did the icon come from?
We are not sure about that. The icon started to be used in the first version of ocenaudio (which never has been officially published) and it continues to be used it in the current version.
11. Are the UI similarities to TwistedWave intentional?
Absolutely no! The first version of ocenaudio was inspired in the original CoolEdit UI. Then the current version, take elements from this first version and try to modernize them.
There's a lot of competition around in this area, but ocenaudio stands out from the crowd immediately. Try opening a file, for example, and you'll find the program supports a vast number of audio formats (including raw and text-based), video files and URLs. It can handle individual files, folders or playlists, even extract audio files from playlists, and everything you've opened is displayed in a neat toolbar on the left-hand side.
Clicking and dragging selects an area, as you'd expect. Clicking Play then plays that area alone. You can set Play to loop, and interestingly this works in real time: you can have ocenaudio looping through one segment, then select something else, and it'll immediately play that instead.
Not sure what these might do? No problem: ocenaudio offers real-time previewing. Choose the 31-band equalizer, say, and you can play your chosen sample, then make any adjustments you need, and hear the results right away. A real time-saver.
Perhaps even better, you're able to select and process multiple areas in a single operation. Just hold down Ctrl, then click, drag and release to create multiple selections. Click Play and ocenaudio will play only those areas. And any effects you choose will also be applied to those areas, leaving everything else untouched.
This software is based on Ocen Framework, a powerful library developed to simplify and standardize the development of audio manipulation and analysis applications across multiple platforms. ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users.
Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls.
ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others.
To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development.
