Highlight or right-click on a section of text and click on Translate icon next to it to translate it to your language. Or, to translate the entire page you're visiting, click the translate icon on the browser toolbar. Learn more about Google Translate at installing this extension, you agree to the Google Terms of Service and Privacy Policy at (v.2.0): Now you can highlight or right-click a text and translate it vs. translate the entire page. You can also change extension options to automatically show translation every time you highlight text.

For English-speaking people, problems of this kind are not very clear. However, try, for example, to go to a German forum and understand something there without speaking German. Or on the Russian-language forum. To quickly translate from an unfamiliar language, Google Translate is used. And it is completely broken on this forum and many other forums using Discourse.

Considering that Chrome / Chromium is the most popular browser, and Google Translate is the most popular machine translator, most of the audience that does not understand the language of the forum is cut off from the forum using Discourse.

No, this is definitely not a language confusion problem. Google translate has long been able to properly separate and translate this.
In my case, I checked it without even logging into the forum. In this case, only 1 language is used in the interface and content. And my interface language here is English.

Surprisingly, when I created this thread, I checked all the translation methods here and on forum.ghost.org. The translation did not work either there or here. Now I have checked forum.ghost.org again and the translation was possible with the help of the official plugin and with the help of the translator built into Chrome. Translation via google.translate.com also does not work. I try this site and the translation works unpredictably (the official plugin translates some pages and some not).

An interesting fact, if I am not logged into the forum, then the interface is shown to me in my system language and I cannot change it until I enter the forum under my account. If the problem of mixing languages really exists, then this behavior is also erroneous.

There are still problems with the google translate site (I already found questions about this problem here) and problems with the official google translate extension for browsers that do not have a built-in translator. This is less of a problem, but still a problem for me because I am not using Chrome, but using the Brave browser due to security issues.

At the moment, I can say that the official google translate plugin cannot translate this forum, but forum.ghost.org does translate without problems. Perhaps the matter is in what forum settings or styles.

I have not checked the entire list, but it is obvious that only a small part of these forums can be easily translated if the visitor has a Chromium browser installed (for example Brave) with the official google translate plugin. I have no doubt that some of the blame lies with this plugin, but it is absolutely useless to point google about this. A critical issue with the plugin only occurs with the Discourse engine (most Discourse forums, but not all) and discussions.apple.com forums.

I cannot yet draw such a conclusion based on all the data collected. After all, this plugin has no problems with any other forum and site engines (even those with a lot of JavaScript, for example NodeBB). I can only 100% say that Google will not solve this problem, even if it is on their side.

I have the same question as this 2019 query. Looking to see if it is possible to quantify the instances of page being viewed in another language when the visitor is using the translate feature on Chrome.

It looks like back then it was not possible unless you create a way to detect and capture this. Is it still the case? Or is anyone aware of a new development in this front in the past 3 years, that allow us to easily quantify page views with Google Translate?

Google Chrome lets you automatically translate a webpage not written in your browser's default language. Like most online translation software, though, it can be a little unreliable. If you don't need it---or if you use a different translation service---here's how to turn Chrome's off.

When navigating to a site that's automatically been translated by Chrome, a Google Translate icon appears in the Omnibox. To see what's available for the site or language-specific options, click the Translate icon.

From here, you can choose to "Show Original" to translate the page back into the original language, or you can click the dropdown "Options" button for a few other choices, like having it always translate the language, never translate the language, or never translate the current site. You also can change language settings.

If you have more than one language added to your browser, Chrome will normally just offer to translate web pages to your browser's primary language. By default Chrome's translating of additionally added languages is turned off, but if you'd rather Chrome handle these languages as well, click more (three dots next to a language) next to the language, and tick the "Offer to translate pages in this language" setting. This lets Chrome translate specific languages for you in the future.

I am in Kubuntu 22.04 and I have Chrome Version 122.0.6261.128 (Official Build) (64-bit) and the google page translation stopped working today.I am getting the popup This page couldn't be translatedWas there any recent update that broke this?I have tried with multiple sites/languages

Ok, now is working.
I was using kde, and kde locale were set at spanish, so I expected google-chrome should use my kde locale.
I was wrong. Google-chrome uses systems locale, wich where set at english (can be checked using "locale" command)

// This code is used in conjunction with the Google Translate Element script.
// It is executed in an isolated world of a page to translate it from one

// It should be included in the page before the Translate Element script.

This is happening to me as well. Not only in Chrome but in Chromium too. Same error.
It looks like the gtTimeInfo object is constructed using a number that has comma instead of dot and that breaks the javascript.

When you're browsing the web, you might come across a page where some of the text is in a different language. With the new update to the Google Translate Chrome extension, you can translate just that piece of text, without worrying about the rest of the page.

Please help, I just updated my ISO for my macbook to the latest version and since then google chrome don`t translate pages for me again to English, I see the translation Icon on the title bar but when I click on it, nothing happens and when I open a page that is in another language I don`t get the suggestion to translate again. I have checked all settings of my google chrome and all is in order, auto translate is turned on, what can I do? Thanks

How to set up the little pop-up bar down below the screen, which generates a quick Google search whenever a word or phrase has been highlighted, to automatically translate what has been selected. That was my original setup but I guess I have messed up some settings and now it doesn't translate. How can I turn it back on?

Fortunately, Google offers a quick and easy way to translate not just text but entire webpages in a few clicks. Here, we will explain how to translate whole webpages into any language and change how you browse the web using Google Translate.

Many online tools allow you to translate webpages. Here, there are two ways to use the web-based service Google Translate: its translation pop-up and Chrome extension. Here is how you can use either to translate webpages:

When you enter a website in a foreign language, the translation pop-up will automatically appear in the address bar. The webpage should automatically translate to the preferred language you have set. If you need to use the pop-up again, simply click the icon.

The pop-up has an Ellipsis (the three vertical dots) that gives you five options, including choosing another language and always or never translating a specific language. Once you have translated a webpage, you can navigate the site and read the content without issues.

You can easily install and add Google Translate to your Chrome browser for free. With this extension, you can translate text by highlighting and clicking the small icon to reveal the original and translated word. And you can, of course, translate websites.

Turn off the translation pop-up in the Chrome settings if you are using the extension, as there would be no reason to have both active simultaneously. And you can remove the extension to continue using the translation pop-up.

Click on the Ellipsis in the top-right corner and click Settings from the context menu. From the left-hand tab, click Languages and scroll down to the bottom to find the Google Translate section.

You can efficiently turn Google Translate on and off by clicking the toggle. In addition, you can choose your preferred language to translate to and add or remove languages to automatically or never translate.

Part of my brief is to bring the design of the website closer to that of their printed magazine, with its eclectic mix of typefaces and styles. I love that Mandy Michael has been experimenting with Text Effects, so much so that I included a couple of her examples in Art Direction for the Web.
