Candidemia is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in the healthcare setting. However, there is limited information about risk factors for such infection among elderly patients. A case-control study was conducted during the period 2008-2011. For each case, two controls were selected among patients admitted to the same hospital, and individually matched by sex, age, time of admission, hospital ward and hospitalisation duration. The adjusted odds ratio (OR) was calculated using multiple conditional logistic regression. We identified 145 episodes of candidemia occurring in 140 patients with a median age of 80 years. Candida albicans caused 55% of all candidemia episodes. After adjustment, candidemia was strongly associated with duration of total [duration > 7 days: OR = 20.09; 95% confidence interval (CI): 3.44-117.52] and peripheral parenteral nutrition (duration > 7 days: OR = 26.83; 95% CI: 6.54-110.17), other central vascular catheters (OR = 5.17; 95% CI: 1.24-23.54) and glycopeptide antibiotics (OR = 6.45; 95% CI: 1.90-21.91). Duration of peripheral and total parenteral nutrition and antibiotics predicted over 50% of all candidemias. Intervention studies should be planned to evaluate effectiveness of candidemia prevention by restricting parenteral nutrition, prompting earlier enteral feeding, and reducing use of antibiotics, especially glycopeptides, in elderly patients.
Back-to-back episodes of A&E's "Duck Dynasty" (1.7 and 1.8) bested NBC's high-profile Dick Wolf drama "Chicago Fire" (1.5) in a direct showdown Oct. 17 (not to mention topping every NBC comedy except "The Office," "Go On" and "The New Normal").
The episode was watched by 3.9 million adults 18-49, 3.8 million in the 25-54 demo and an impressive 2 million adults 18-34, making it the most-watched series telecast in A&E history among all key demos. Looking to ride that wave, the net will encore the episode at 9 p.m. Saturday.
The loss of the capital role provoked an economic and social crisis in Parma. It started to recover its role of industrial prominence after the railway connection with Piacenza and Bologna of 1859, and with Fornovo and Suzzara in 1883. Trade unions were strong in the city, in which a notable General Strike was declared from 1 May to 6 June 1908. The struggle with Fascism had its most dramatic moment in August 1922, when the regime officer Italo Balbo attempted to enter the popular quarter of Oltretorrente. The citizens organized into the Arditi del Popolo ("The people's daring ones") and pushed back the squadristi. This episode is considered the first example of Resistance in Italy.
On 1 January 2016 there were 192,836 resident citizens in Parma, of whom 47.64% were male and 52.36% were female.[2] Minors (children aged 18 and younger) totalled 16.46% of the population compared to pensioners who numbered 22.64%. This compares with the Italian average of 17.45% and 22.04% respectively.[15] In the fourteen years between 2002 and 2016, the population of Parma experienced 17.72% growth, while Italy as a whole grew by 6.45%. In the same period foreign born residents in Parma experienced +385.02% growth, while in Italy growth was of +274.75%. [17] The current birth rate of Parma is 8.62 births per 1,000 inhabitants compared to the Italian average of 8.01 births.
As of 1 January 2016[update], 84.09% of the population was Italian. The largest foreign group came from other parts of Europe (namely Moldova, Romania, Albania, and Ukraine: 6.45%), followed by Sub-Saharan Africa (namely Ghana, Nigeria and Ivory Coast: 1.81%), North Africa (namely Morocco and Tunisia: 1.46%) and the Philippines: 1.33%.[16]

The Italian TV programme involves a challenge between seven competitors in different tests, up to the proclamation of the winner of the episode who will thus be able to access the final phase of the game, the guillotine.
In this, the 49th episode of the Camerosity Podcast, Anthony, Theo, Paul, and Mike welcome first time and returning callers, Ray Nason, Brian Howard, Phil C., Keir Frei, Maxwell Whitaker, Richard Diver, Roger Coats, and Sean Mahan to share with us their favorite half-frame models.
As is the case with many episodes, we get off topic a bit and venture into square frame 35mm with the likes of the Berning Robot, Zeiss-Ikon Tenax, and Bolta Photavit cameras. Of course we come back, only to get off topic again talking about Rapid and Karat film cassettes. We start on a slippery slope of what Gen Z looks for in photography today and briefly touch upon why anyone would want to shoot the new Kodak H35 and similar cameras.
As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you! We would love to hear from more listeners, especially those who are new to shooting film or collecting cameras. Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show. We LOVE people who are new to shooting and are interested in having an episode dedicated to people new to the hobby, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining!
The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance.
It is hard to believe, but the next episode of the Camerosity Podcast will be our 50th! Way back in 2021, there was this crazy idea to create a Podcast in the style of an AM/FM Radio Talk Show in which listeners could call in during a live recording and ask questions or talk about whatever they wanted. The first two episodes of this show were done with little more than an hour's notice and between those two episodes, spawned 47 more episodes, eventually making us not only the number one open source film photography podcast, but one of the fastest growing podcasts of any format.
We are trying to put something special together for our 50th episode, but haven't yet settled on the details, or even when we will record yet. I can tell you it will definitely be in early June, but when I know, you'll know. Hope to see you then!
If you would like to offer feedback or contact us with questions or ideas for future episodes, please contact us in the Comments Section below, our Camerosity Facebook Group or Instagram page, or email us at camerosit...@gmail.com.
The 17 boats of the series ADUA were built by various Italian shipyards in the years between 1936 and 1938 and which were named after famous episodes of the recently concluded war in East Africa (1935-36) which brought about the creation of Italian East Africa.
After a lukewarm opening episode, Bigg Boss 17 showcased its first episode on Monday. And it seems like the contestants were well prepared to hog the limelight as they indulged in drama from the word go. Former couple Abhishek Kumar and Isha Malviya, who entered the show on a sour note as they had a face-off on the stage, were seen getting involved in multiple fights in the house. The other housemates had to play peacemaker between them.
The acronym ALTE (Apparent Life-Threatening Event) is widely used in medical literature, sometimes particularly referring to acute and severe events (Acute Life-Threatening Episodes or Events) [4, 5], Nevertheless, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has recently proposed the replacing of the term ALTE with the new acronym BRUE (Brief Resolved Unexplained Events) [6] to allow for more easily classifying and managing all those patients who come under medical observation without any symptomatology and with a clinical history that suggests minor episodes.
The precise incidence of ALTE is not known from the available scientific literature. This depends mainly on the different clinical interpretation given to these episodes, on the substantial inequality in the clinical/instrumental approach, on the variable coding of the event, and on the fact that the studies refer mainly to cases arriving under hospital observation.
The most frequent diseases causing episodes having the features of ALTE are represented by digestive tract diseases, [14,15,16] neurological diseases, respiratory tract infections, endocrine-metabolic diseases, cardiac diseases and child abuse [12, 14, 15, 17].
Hence, if an episode of ALTE is associated with regurgitation, it does not require treatment or investigation for GERD unless severe or recurrent episodes occur, as pointed out in GER GL [29] and in a recent systematic review on the approach to ALTE [31]. As no specific symptom exists and regurgitation is neither specific nor necessary for the diagnosis of GERD, in the selected cases, it is recommended to perform 24-h pH-impedance with simultaneous PSG recordings to quantify acid and non acid GER and to detect possible relation with apnoea [29, 31, 32]. Ultrasound, X-Ray and scintigraphy have low sensitivity and/or specificity for GER and do not allow a symptom association assessment [29].
Despite investigation for GERD should be reserved to very few selected infants, if frequent, persistent and troublesome regurgitations emerge from the history of infants, it is advised to provide parents education on correct position and feeding to avoid prone position during sleep, overfeeding, exacerbations of GER and possible recurrent respiratory associated episodes [29, 37]. Alginate treatment for 2-4 weeks can also be considered in troublesome regurgitating infants before performing investigations for GER [37].
