Hi all,

I approached NINA (Northeast Indiana Nonprofit Alliance) in July about
the potential of our group collaborating with them to create a
mentorship network/program for area nonprofit professionals.

This collaboration can unfold in a lot of ways and I want to know your
needs and thoughts before contact is made with NINA again. My thoughts
are leaning toward a mutually beneficial mentorship program wherein
two folks are mentoring each other. I'm thinking occasional lunches
but mostly the chance to ask hard questions and advice from a proven
third party.

How much interest would you have in a mentorship program?

How would you choose a mentor? What qualities are essential to you?

Is this a good direction for NeXtGen Digest?

What would you need out of an effective mentorship program?

What would make such a program beneficial across generations?

What would you be able to mentor someone else on? Technology? Writing?
Leadership? etc.

At this point, any thoughts you have (+/-) are needed! Thanks~

Not sure that I'm interested in a mentor through this avenue. I already have a couple of people that I meet with either weekly or bi-weekly that advise in this avenue. Interested in knowing more about NINA though.

I have to agree with Andrew -- I'm not sure that I would be interested in a mentorship program. I have a strong support base around here for when I am struggling with something.

It's a great idea -- maybe some of the others might benefit from that?

Hi Andy and Andrew,

I am so glad to hear that you both have developed strong natural
mentorships! My concern is in creating one for folks in the nonprofit
sector who don't have access to positive, wise mentors and I believe I
need your input to make it effective.

To add some history and offer my motivations to the group, I didn't
come up with this idea out of no where. At the conclusion of the
NextShift report posted in our uploads here and available from the
blog, a mentorship program is suggested as a means to overcome
generational workplace problems in nonprofits. It is by no means the
only answer and the key is in making it a mutually beneficial
relationship wherein both parties are mentoring each other.

Does the group have in any interest in that?
