hi all,

here's a puzzle:
In a cage there are 10 lions and 1 goat..
If goat sleeps, it'll be eaten by one of the lions..
if any lion eats goat, it'll sleep and 'll be eaten by one of the remaining lions..
So the question is "Will the goat sleep or not??"

Regards,
Siddharth

The answer is No.

Reason is, if the goat sleeps, it has to be eaten by one of lion. If any lion eats it, it will also sleep and get killed by other lion. So the lions won't let the goat sleep.

Goat can get into agreement with lions. If goat sleeps there is risk of life for both lions and goat.

Agreement is : 1. All lions have to sleep first
                       2. No lion should wake-up until goat can wake up them.

well...our goat is not so intelligent and good at public relations...so there is no possibility of any agreement here...

Siddharth,

Well... we don't really need the goat's cooperation here... if the
lions want to save their lives they can as well just keep sleeping? Or
do you want to hint that the goat might just sleep, who cares...
because knowing that death awaits the lion who eats the goat none of
the lion would dare do that?

Or how about this... all lions sleep... whoever wakes up and sees the
goat sleeping first eats it and then happily goes back to sleep. If
any other lion has woken up at the same time both of them simply go
back to sleep. So the first time we have a situation where a lion
wakes up (all all other lions are sleeping) and the goat is also
sleeping he eats his fills.

This way... if there is bhai chara among the Lions they can even share
some meat. :)

Jyoti

I agree with Mickey's solution. Just an addition to it: If the goat
sleeps and all lions are awake, they will distribute (either
deliberately or by virtue of understanding) the meat and eat it. So,
no lion can kill any other lion and harmony (among lions) is
maintained.

Akhi,

We can't do what you are saying. If goat sleeps, it'll be eaten by one of the lions..  This means goat has to be eaten by one lion.

I agree with Sudheer. The question asks if the goat will sleep or
not... ideally thinking... why would the goat sleep unless it wants to
be killed?

I agree with Mickey. Siddharth, could you provide a hint about what
you are expecting?
