FOOL AT HEART

The Art of Playful Spirituality
Cultivating Joy, Wisdom and Healing

New Generation
International Open Workshop

BERLIN
28 -29 November 2009

With Didier Danthois
“Leaping into the Unknown”
This weekend is specially designed for the young generation from 18 to
30s

It will be a playful exploration of the theme:
The Unknown.
This mysterious ocean we both fear and love….
There is a way to ride its waves. D.D.

* FOOL AT HEART *

In Simplicity and Presence the Fool takes us directly to the heart.
With Playful Wisdom, he/she guides us through the noisy clutter of too
much thinking to the child of eternity, secretly hiding at the core of
our being. In trust and innocence the Fool recalls the music of the
soul, and so echoes a song of timeless Joy of a Lover for the
Beloved.

Cultivating Joy, Wisdom and Healing

We will nurture the „Fool at Heart“ consciousness, lying dormant in
each of us as an expression of what is true, and is free, loving,
creative, and at peace. This approach combines the Sacred Clown and
Indian Raga Singing.

The Clown will walk us to the edge, beckoning you to play with the
world and to discover a treasure in a grain of sand. The Fool
liberates us from the shadows of old habits and fears of the unknown,
helping us to embody the Sacred Clown, as a way to awaken to the
Wisdom of Innocence.
Indian Raga singing is a practice of cultivating the heart through
sound. It is an enchanting exploration of the colours and textures of
emotions. Raga singing unites, transforms, expands our perception of
reality and soothes our heart with timeless Joy. This is a healing
gateway to the Soul Song of the Fool. When it has been found, it
cannot be lost. No experience of singing is needed.

We will explore: dance, mime, play, mindfulness, breath, clowning,
compassion, singing, stillness, precence, meditation, creative
interdependence, the clown‘s nose & improvisation.

A journey to unravel the mystery, discovering unique inner and outer
colours.
A way to “come home” to our deeper nature,
a boat to cross the ocean.
D.D.

The following text gives us an impression about Didier's understanding
of the Sacred Clown:

The Gifts of Vulnerability and Openness

In my work as a performer and teacher of the Sacred Art of Clowning,
I found that fear, awkwardness or just feeling vulnerable can either
become a barrier or a gateway to creative expression. It all resides
in the attitude. If I ignore my vulnerability, I split myself from my
human reality in this moment, taking me away from authenticity into
pretending. Another possibility came to me slowly through my personal
experience.

I went through stage fright before performances, especially in the
beginning of my carrier, and asked myself, how would a Sacred Clown
look at this? He would say: ‘First go inside to the roots of your
being and listen to the silence’. So I listened. Something was
happening, thawing, melting.

Was I surrendering? My legs shook and trembled. I began playing,
clowning with my fear. From then on, I played with my vulnerability in
performances; fear was not an obstacle any more. It had lost its
seriousness, there was now opportunity for enyoyment. I progressively
came to realise that fear was very much a key in the transformative
process of opening up to a Sacred Attitude, bringing humility and
simplicity to the The Clown has the licence to be vulnerable, to
become truly naked to the present,to become empty. Then openess, an
unstained perception can manifest, a veil is lifted to the realm of
innocence and wonder. A sense of gratitude and a reverence for all
things and all people can emerge. Love and compassion fill the heart,
and there is a sense of being held, as by an infinitively loving
mother.

In that sacred space, everything is alive, and becomes a source of
creativity. A dull face in the audience, a balloon exploding, a light,
a shadow on the floor, dust flying in the air, a bald head
shining…….everything around starts to tell a story, talking you on a
journey into the unknown……….
………a forgotten microphone stand takes over the stage. The
Clown feels overcome, laughter in the audience erupt like a call, the
Clown responds and waves, but is quickly pulled back by the over
bearing stand, which seems to dominate all,……….the Clown
surrenders…………..
A story unfolds, where every object speaks, where everybody
contributes, where there is an invisible string between all things and
all people. Enchanted, the Clown becomes an instrument being played,
in service of the Unseen. This is the magic craft of the Sacred Clown.
