Accessing NextBus API over HTTPS?

With the advent of HSTS and the prevalence of HTTPS on the web these days (thanks LetsEncrypt!), is there any chance that the API can also be hosted over HTTPS?

I am unable to access it from an HSTS enabled HTTPS site:

Mixed Content: The page at 'https://____________' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure XMLHttpRequest endpoint 'http://webservices.nextbus.com/service/publicXMLFeed?command=predictions&a=sf-muni&stopId=15726&routeTag=KT'. This request has been blocked; the content must be served over HTTPS.
