Heads-up for an upcoming course, of experimental nature but of interest to everybody, especially those working on phenomenology projects. Students should contact directly the lecturers to express their interest:

p.fabrizio...@googlemail.com
s.j.m....@sussex.ac.uk

This course will run on Tue 15-17 starting Tuesday 20 Jan for 12 weeks. I have no specific info on the virtual SEPnet room, so I assume is the Sussex one. The above schedule alongside available resources (slides, etc.)
should appear shortly on the NExT PhD School Google Calendar. Finally, local PGR Coordinators will arrange for the SEPnet/Visimeet VC Room bookings (if available) or else of the newly delivered mobile units (last resort is as usual the free Visimeet licence on one's PC/Laptop).

I have attached the course outline below.

Course outline

Students will acquire an overview of the current status of modern particle physics and current experimental techniques used in an attempt to answer today's fundamental questions in this field.

The topics discussed will be:

1 Essential skills for the experimental particle physicist

2 Neutrino physics: Neutrino oscillations and reactor neutrinos

3 Neutrino physics: SuperNova, geo- and solar- neutrinos and direct neutrino mass measurements

4 Cosmic ray physics

5 Dark matter

6 Introduction to QCD (jets, particles distribution functions, etc)

7 Higgs physics

8 BSM (including supersymmetry)

9 Flavour physics & CP violation

10 Electric dipole measurements

11 Future particle physics experiments
