Hello Mary, Michael and Greg,
Because of the important work you do in Pittsburgh, I wanted to make sure you know about the latest opportunity with restorative justice work at Center for Victims. Coro Fellow, Berenise, agreed to share this info. with other Coro fellows, but I wanted to be sure you have the options of sharing with other networks, if you like.
After years of conducting Victim Offender Dialogues (between Allegheny county juvenile offenders and their victims), we are pleased to announce that we are extending this service to include situations in which young people commit offenses that do not have a direct victim (or a victim who supports dialogue but is not is able to participate). In these situations, offending youth will now have the opportunity to meet with community representatives who can help them in a process of taking accountability in a restorative way (telling their story, considering impacts and taking steps to make things right).
In order to conduct these Community Dialogues, we need the help of volunteer community members to participate in the dialogues as Community Representatives. These volunteers will be invited to participate in dialogues on an as-needed basis, and the timing and location of a dialogue will depend on the needs of the parties in each case. We don’t know yet how extensive the need will be but we’d like to be ready with a diverse pool of volunteers, representing a range of neighborhoods throughout Allegheny County.
I’m attaching our outreach flyer which you are encouraged to share with others.
I’m asking folks who are able to attend our training to reply to me by March 13.
Don’t hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions, or if you would like to have someone present to your group about restorative justice.
Cordially,
Dawn
Community Dialogues are a Restorative Justice process which support youthful offenders of crime to take direct responsibility for their actions by meeting face-to-face with community members who can help them understand the impacts of their actions.
What do Community Representatives do?
Community Representatives speak with youthful offenders about the impacts of crime, and support them in taking steps to make things right.
If this sounds like a good fit for you, call us by March 13 at
412-482-3240 x225 to sign-up for our
