Support Young Adults to Become Leaders of the Future, May 6, 2014 Day of Giving

Every day, the world we live in grows more complex and interconnected. The boundaries that separate the communities, professions, and sectors within which we go about our daily lives are growing more blurry. It is ever more difficult to protect ourselves from the dangers of the world in which we live. Yet we also face unprecedented opportunities to utilize information, technology and networks to make a difference in the world, to address the challenges we face, whether lifting people out of poverty, preparing our children to graduate high school prepared for life, or building safe and sustainable communities.

At Coro Pittsburgh we believe that the only way to approach the big challenges of today is through whole systems thinking and cooperation between all sectors–government, business, nonprofit, education. Coro exists in order to prepare leaders with the tools they need to make an impact in today’s complex and interconnected world. Currently over 100 highly diverse, values-driven young adults are participating in an intensive Coro leadership program. While they are at different stages of learning, each participant is honing her/his skills, building an integrated network, and developing hands-on experience in the art of collaborative problem solving. To get to know the current cohort of Coro participants, follow the links below.

Coro requires a great deal of resources in order to recruit participants, mobilize mentors and subject matter experts, secure cross-sector project placements, and deliver training seminars that facilitate learning among our participants. We rely upon foundation grants (39 percent), Federal Government (33%), corporate contributions (27%), and individual donations (1%) to underwrite our work. You can help by making a donation on the May 6th Day of Giving. We have just $8,000 remaining towards our individual giving goal for the current fiscal year, ending June 30.

Day of Giving Event Details

On Tuesday, May 6th, The Pittsburgh Foundation will be kicking off the 2014 Day of Giving. The Day of Giving 2014 will run from 6:00 a.m. until midnight.  This is an 18-hour event.  This event is part of Give Local America, the national day for community foundations across the country.  All donations over $25 will be partially matched by a pool of funds designated by the Foundation.
