Hello All,

Please let me know if there are any objections to giving a $300 stipend to Steve & Aliya Wrays Barbershop and Hair salon. They are willing to donate time on Sunday 8/25 from noon-5 to give out free back to school hair cuts (males) and manicures (females). The stipend was offered to offset supply's and transportation. This is a minority owned business that wants to be involved. I personally don't see a problem with spending 1.78% of our funds on this exciting perk(yes, I did calculate it). I guarantee this will not only excite kids for school but bring out people that might not original be showing up for the paper football championship headliner. Please consider. If I fail to receive objections within 24 hours I will proceed with the request for funds. Also KDKA would like to cover this event. I will be sending them a one pager, but first I will send it to the group. Read it, edit it, send it back so I don't miss anyone's info. Thank you all and as we approach this anticipated event remember "a good leader knows how to lead, a great leader also know how to follow".

See you soon,
Quincy Kofi Swatson

As of now 3, two manicurist and one barber. I can get a second barber from that same shop or reach out to "hallelujah anyhow" to see if the person Angela mentioned is interested.

As far as them donating their services, I don't clearly understand what that implicates. They are donating there talent, time and service to a community that needs it. It's only right we offset supplies, transportation, etc... We as next leaders were in fact stipend to offset associated costs, can we do the same?

See you soon,

I know this shop from McKees Rocks and I know the work.  If we are going with two barbers and two nail tech's $300 for supplies isn't bad. I think we need a couple more people to say yes or no.

Quincy.... I suppose you can request all that you would like with or without the group consensus.  Just remember what the criteria that needs to be meet in order for Alex to present it to Greg.

Annnnndddd I'm not sure if Aliya and her father are natives of the Northside. They service alot of people from the Northside though.

Remember that I need to report back to Greg to request the funds and to answer the following questions:

-How many volunteers will be involved?
-What donations or in-kind contributions will be made? (specify amount and source)
-How do you anticipate the project will inspire and enable other people to use and build on what you create?

Quincy, do me a solid - please go back to them, butter them up, tell them about all of the great press we're going to get, and ask them to donate the services and supplies. If they can't do it then we'll decide what to do next.

Thank you for taking care of this, I think it's a really important piece of the event.

Alex

Urban Rain Garden Gathering a 'huge success'.  To read the Northside Chronicle article: click here

This time of year has come again when outdoor activities can be fun.  Shane and Sam's Club will be making it fun next week.

Who: Shane & Sam's Club crew, community residents (& you?)
What: Green-up the intersection of N. Charles and Brighton Road
When: Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 8AM - ? (until finished)
Where: Bright -Chuck Point (intersection of N. Charles and Brighton Road)
How: Till grass; Plant trees, flowers & shrubs; Spread tarp, soil & mulch
Why: To improve the appearance of this site -  beautify another Northside location

If you join the fun, it will be an opportunity to catch-up with NLN folks, plant into Northside ground (the lower part) and show that you are not too good to get your hands dirty (literally).
Children (Northside residents especially) are welcome.
How often do children create and cultivate something beautiful in their neighborhood?

Thanks in advance for your support.  If ever I can help you, please let me know.
