GreenStar Cooperative Market, located in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York, seeks a General Manager to lead and inspire the organization. Founded in 1971, GreenStar serves the City of Ithaca and surrounding communities, and has a membership of over 12,000. In the spring of 2020, the Co-op moved into its repurposed and newly renovated 30,000sq. ft. building with state of the art retail space design and technology. It is the destination of choice in the area for high quality, healthy foods, with an emphasis on locally-grown and regionally produced organic and ecologically sound products. It is also a financially sustainable operation that supports and yields economic, social and environmental returns to its members and the community, and works to engage its members in higher levels of participation in the Cooperative. GreenStar seeks to hire a General Manager.

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the operational leadership of the Co-op and works closely with Council (the Board of Directors) in developing and implementing the organization's long-range planning, vision, and mission. The GM also oversees the Co-op's financial, human resources, and facilities management functions. The GM reports to Council and has management oversight of the entire staff, numbering approximately 200 employees.

Interested candidates should have 10 years experience in retail grocery, supply chain, distribution, or similar management environment, or a Master's degree in management or related field and three years in business and/or personnel management in the grocery industry. Preference will be given to candidates with upper-level management experience in cooperative grocery. The successful candidate will also have excellent supervisory and management skills, strong communication and listening skills, and a passion for the mission and values of cooperative ownership. A good sense of humor, the desire to engage deeply with the cooperative and its community, and sharp critical thinking skills are also essential.
