What is the Worker Cooperatives Census?

The Census of Worker Cooperatives and Democratic Workplaces is the only national survey tracking trends and growth among businesses that use workplace democracy to transform the work environment. Every two years, the U.S. Federation of Worker Cooperatives (USFWC) and the Democracy at Work Institute (DAWI) survey workplaces like yours and publish the results in the "State of the Sector" report.

Why is your participation important?

The data collected through the census strengthens efforts to secure policies that support worker cooperatives at local, state, and federal levels. It also aids in obtaining funding for technical assistance, loans, and other resources that promote cooperative growth. Additionally, the census contributes to a report that highlights the growth and impact of worker cooperatives, increasing the visibility of your work. By participating, you demonstrate that our movement is expanding and building an economy that prioritizes people. If your organization is a worker cooperative or a workplace where decisions are made democratically, we encourage you to participate!

Data Privacy

USFWC and DAWI are committed to using data transparently and responsibly, respecting participants' privacy. We never sell contact information or contact lists. Whenever we publicly share demographic or financial data, we aggregate and anonymize it to ensure that no individual organizations can be identified.
