Hey guys

Just to clarify some important points for the grad show
I’ve noticed that some of you have started making facebook events for your individual shows, titling it a ‘graduate show on the 25th, at 6 or 6:30’
This poses a slight problem

By making individual events, the invited guests are going to be bombarded with at least 14 or 15 different events all for the same night and same time,
and this will result in confusion, and a dispersed crowd.
While you are having individual shows in your own spaces, the graduate show falls under the title NEWWORK11.
This has been known throughout the year, and I think it is important to state that NEWWORK 11 will open in the Substation on Friday 25th at 6pm
What I foresee happening is that people will start going to the individual venues across campus or town, and miss the actual main event.
The Substation is the most crucial space as it will feature a work by each of you, in some form,
and this is where people will get catalogues and maps which details everyones exhibitions
This is where people need to come first, and I think we need to make this very clear in whatever invitations are sent out.

We will have an opening speech at 6:30 and from 7 onwards guests can take the catalogues, maps, and move to other venues

Ideally you should all be sending out the NEWWORK11 event to all your friends and family by now,
and we will also have those postcards printed to hand out across town at galleries etc.
So lets keep it simple and draw people in to ONE event

I have also requested that you send me the title of your exhibition, so that I can put all the information up on one event.
So please do this ASAP

That sounds wonderful but many of my guests don't have time to split between the two venues which are very far apart. Since they have made this clear to me I have to accommodate them.

Luiza,

I think it is important that you do include the fact that your show is part of NEWWORK11, in the information on your facebook event.
you want it to open at the same time as the opening in the substation and i find that impolite and disrespectful to the fact that this is a collective graduate show.
your show is not exclusive of the group as a whole.

if your guests only want to go to yours thats fine, but you've made no indication that there is a larger event.
August house and the Substation are not that far away, and Kagiso also has a show there.

Hey, meant no disrespect. Will indicate that the show is part of a collective. Also made it at 6. 30 - half an hour later - can't do much later since people won't come later. With the show all the way!

If it won't all fit just Process is fine. Im showing in the WSOA basement. But also from the wooden walkway to WSOA courtyard where people have to look down onto my work, then proceed down the stairs in the courtyard to the Basement interior.
