Hey Folks,

Here's the meeting minutes from our meeting on 5/2 along w/ a list of action items.  Next meeting has been scheduled for June 8th.  See you then!

Action items:

Joe: check into custom site feasibility

Greg: check w/ wife regarding design for flyers and website

Jeff: secure meeting location in NRV for June 8th.

Mike: contact Adobe for resources and direction, come up w/ topic for June 8th meeting, contact NCTC

Meeting minutes

1) Joe demo'ed his mobile IMB application featuring JQueryMobile.  He also talked about the use of the baked-in ORM software available in CF9.

2) Greg demo'ed his use of BlazeDS as a proxy to overcome missing crossdomain.xml issues.  He also showed a few other apps using BlazeDS for push communication and fielded questions about BlazeDS

3) Discussion on benefit / usefulness of AUG.  General consensus was that the meeting has been helpful thus far: broadening our technical radar, gaining insight into new technologies, networking.

4) Discussion on how to market ourselves.  

• Jeff mentioned technical listservs at VT.
• Joe mentioned asking the NCTC to put us on their monthly email.
• Jeff mentioned meetup.com and Mike responded that he thinks that costs around $20/month.
• Joe mentioned creating custom site for the group complete with SEO optimization -- something w/ more control than Adobe group and Google Sites.
• Greg volunteered his wife's design skills to help w/ the custom website.
• Someone mentioned contacting the VT CS department and posting flyers -- Greg again volunteered his wife's design skills.

5) Discussion on meeting location

• Jeff mentioned public libraries; Greg volunteered his projector if the library doesn't have one.
• Joe said SVSN is an option until we get too large
• We discussed Modea and NewCity as possibilities if a user from one of those companies allows.
• Mike suggested Salem and Christiansburg libraries as these would be closer to our respective valleys.

6) Ideas for future meetings

• more demos
• ask Adobe what resources are available
• watch other user group presentations together and discuss: unit testing -- Ryan Anklam; CF Online Meetup.
• general software development practices
• code kata -- unit testing
