BJS and NCES Propose Revision to the NCVS School Crime Supplement Data Collection

The BJS encourages comments from the public and affected agencies for 60 days until August 15, 2014, on proposed revisions to the School Crime Supplement (SCS) of the National Crime Victimization Survey. In BJS’s information collection request to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) published in the Federal Register, written comments should address one or more of these points:

  1. Evaluate whether the collection is necessary to BJS and will have practical utility.
  2. Evaluate the accuracy of the estimated public burden.
  3. Evaluate how to enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of information 4) Suggest ways to minimize the burden for respondents.

The SCS survey, a joint effort between BJS and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), has been conducted since 1989 to collect additional information about school-related victim¬izations at the national level. The most recent findings from the survey are available in Indicators of School Crime and Safety: 2013.
