Hi School Safety Working Group Members -

The House CJS Bill has been released and I'm pasting a quick breakdown of the justice areas below. Note that COPs funding is down significantly while CCSI is funded at 75 million for a second year (as we expected). This is the bill, apparently votes are tomorrow morning.

Below are a few highlights I picked out to send to my members.  Holler if you have a question about something not listed here:

  • Byrne JAG - $376 million, or $354 million after carve-outs. This topline is level funding from last year, but is an increase of $10 million after carve-outs.
  • JJDPA Title II formula grants - $45 million (down from $55 million in FY14)
  • Juvenile Accountability Block Grant (JABG) - $0 (same as FY14 but down from $24 million in FY13)
  • OJJDP Title V grants - $0 (down from $15 million in FY14)
  • OJJDP Part G Juvenile Mentoring grants - $90 million (up from $89 million)
  • OVW STOP grants - $195 million (up from $193 million)
  • Victims of Crime Fund cap - $770 million (up from $745 million)
  • Victims of Trafficking grants - $46 million (up from $14 million)
  • Sexual Assault Kit Backlog - $36 million (this is a new program, funded for the first time)
  • Justice Reinvestment Initiative - $30 million (up from $28 million)
  • Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) - $12 million (up from $10 million)
  • Second Chance Act - $63 million (down from $68 million)
  • Drug courts - $41 million (level funded)
  • DNA analysis and crime labs - $125 million (level funded)
  • Criminal History Improvements (NCHIP) - $59 million (level funded)
  • COPS Hiring - $70 million (down from $180 million)
  • State Criminal Alien Criminal Assistance Program (SCAP) - $210 million (up from $180 million)
  • Comprehensive School Safety Initiative - $75 million (level funded for the second year of this new research and grant program)
