Hi everyone,
The meeting of the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday was well attended - by Mike's friends, neighbors and supporters. There were very few people in the room there to call for his resignation. The sentiment of the other two Republican board members and those who spoke in favor of Mike remaining on the Board was that we should "forgive his mistake." (Referring only to his drunk driving with no mention of his abuse of power towards the arresting officer). Without public outrage over this, how is the Board supposed to react? Any Democrat who spoke out against Mike's remaining on the Board was told they are just being political and should basically sit down and shut up. It was one of the most sickening displays of hypocrisy I've seen by our Republican Board members and those who support them - and believe me I've seen a lot over the past 6 years!
If the tables were turned and this was one of the Democratic Board members who was arrested, they would have a mob of angry people lined up out the door calling for their head on a silver platter! There would be absolutely no mercy shown until that person resigned!
I would have loved to have spoken out myself and shared the results of the email survey but have been sick and can't speak without coughing. Even so, they take my comments with a grain of salt because I am seen as one who is not politically neutral. I did send the supervisors an email (see text below) the next day and attached the same file I'm sending you that contains the results of the email survey. Overwhelmingly, the 30+ responses call for Mike to resign.
I encourage each one of you to continue to write to the supervisors to personally express your opinion and also to consider attending one of the March BOS meetings (March 10 or March 24, 7:30 pm in the new administration building) to voice your opinion during the public comment session at the beginning of the meeting.
Supervisors email addresses:
ro...@twp.newtown.pa.usFull names are: Phil Calabro, Jerry Schenkman, Matt Benchener, Mike Gallagher and Rob Ciervo.
Text of my email message to the supervisors regarding the email survey results:
To the Board of Supervisors,
I sat in on the first half hour of the meeting last
night to hear the public comment portion of the meeting. It became clear to me
that it may be helpful at this point to share with you directly what the public
sentiment is regarding Mike's arrest. I took it upon myself to find out last
month shortly after the first article hit the Courier. I got over 30 responses
via email from residents within 48 hours. Most of them calling for Mike
resignation. Most of them registered R. Most of them with no political stake in
anything and not one of the responses is from anyone who holds office within the
Newtown Democrats. For the record, the responses are attached as well as what I
wrote to solicit the responses. I did not ask anyone for permission to share
their response publicly, hence I was forced to leave names off. Also note that the "Everyone makes mistakes. We are all human."
is a separate response from the one above it and comes from one of Mike's
neighbors.
This is NOT about party politics and mud slinging.
It's about an ethical violation that needs to be taken seriously. I urge the
Board to stop pandering to party politics, trying to protect its own,
and safeguarding your political aspirations and put what is best for this
community first and foremost.
Regards,
Jen Dix
