Dear Friends,
Please consider coming to the last Lower Makefield Township Zoning Hearing Board meeting where PUBLIC COMMENT will be taken regarding the Special Exception that Frankford/ Aria Hospital is requesting for their proposed move to Route 332 (Newtown Bypass) and Stony Hill Road.
WHEN: Tuesday, August 18, 2009 @ 7:30PM
WHERE: Lower Makefield Township Building
1100 Edgewood Road
Yardley, PA 19067
I've talked to some of you about my personal concern with Frankford/ Aria's desire to relocate from its Oxford Valley Mall location to the intersection of Stony Hill & the Newtown Bypass (previously the pumpkin patch of Shadybrook Farm). In a nutshell, my concerns are:
1) The Frankford/Aria Hospital will bring an additional 9,400 vehicles per day to this intersection. We're already buried with traffic here. The hospital traffic - including ambulances and helicopters - will bury us further. Today this intersection has a high volume of accidents. It will only become more dangerous with hospital traffic.
2) What will happen after the hospital is built? Will we build a McDonald's restaurant and others to service the 24 hour/day, 7 days/week massive operation? Will we then build gas stations along the Bypass? Will this be the beginning of the end of the unique and priceless open space character of our area?
3) At the 7/21/09 Zoning Hearing Board meeting, I heard chilling testimony about the biological waste that will be generated by the hospital and other environmental implications of having a hospital in our neighborhood. It was scary.
4) We don't need a hospital at this location. St. Mary Hospital is located just 5 miles away from this location and Capital Health Hospital is building a huge new state of the art hospital (over 900,000 square feet) about 6 miles away from it, in New Jersey (just off I-95).
5) Our Police Chief has testified that Lower Makefield will need to hire at least four (4) new police officers to handle the requirements of the hospital. This will cost around $5 million dollars over the next ten years. Lower Makefield Township taxpayers will be responsible for this cost, as the hospital is a Non-Profit and, as such, will not be required to pay taxes to the Township.
IF YOU ARE OPPOSED TO THE ZONING HEARING BOARD GRANTING FRANKFORD/ARIA HOSPITAL A SPECIAL EXCEPTION FOR THIS MOVE, please come to the Aug. 18 meeting to show your opposition. Your presence will be invaluable, whether or not you choose to make public comment.
