to Newton Police Department Press Group
On 12/14/09 at 10:47a.m., Newton Police responded to Weis Market for a
report of two shoplifters. Upon arrival, patrols located two males
running from the store that matched the description of the reported
actors. Subsequent investigation revealed that Jack Asencio, age 29,
of Sussex, NJ and Alan Adelman, age 33, of Hamburg, NJ had been
observed by store employees to be in the process of trying to steal
(30) bottles of Isomil baby formula (valued at $427.50) and attempting
to leave the store without paying for the items.
Both were charged with the offense of Shoplifting (N.J.S. 2C:20-11(B)
1) (4th Degree). Two additional warrants were located for Adelman
(Hardyston - $750.00 and Newark - $300.00). He was lodged in the
Sussex County Jail in default of bail while Asencio was processed and
released pending an appearance in Newton Municipal Court on 12/22/09.
All merchandise was retained by Weis Market.
