On Wednesday September 30, 2009 Newton Police received reports that two vehicles parked in a driveway on Mason Avenue in Newton were burglarized. Two I-Pods were stolen from the vehicles, which were unlocked at the time.
On Thursday October 1, 2009 Newton Police received a report that another vehicle parked in a driveway on Mason Avenue in Newton was burglarized. Two I-Pods were stolen from the vehicle, which was unlocked at the time.
The vehicles were entered at unknown times during the overnight. On October 2, 2009 at about 2:00 AM, Patrolman Joseph D’Annibale encountered a person walking on Lawnwood Avenue and identified him as Edward Zubl, a 38 year old resident of Andover Twp. Further investigation led to Zubl’s arrest on October 15, 2009. Detectives charged Zubl with Burglary [NJS 2C:18-2a. 3rd Degree Crimes] and Theft [NJS 2C:20-3a. Fourth Degree Crimes] of the I-Pods that were in the vehicles on Mason Avenue. The total value of the items stolen was $629.00.
A jacket was also recovered that was believed to be stolen from a vehicle in that area, the owner of which has not yet been identified. Police are seeking to identify the owner of the jacket.
Upon arrest, Zubl was processed and incarcerated in the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail set by Hon. Judge John E. Mulhern JMC.
