These annotated booklists come from the Houston Area Independent
Schools Library Network (HAISLN). Eight booklists are available in pdf
format: Preschool through Kindergarten, Grades 1 & 2, Grades 3 & 4,
Grade 5, Grade 6, Grade 7 & 8, Grades 9 & 10, Grades 11 & 12. The
carefully selected children's books and young adult books on the
booklists include recent fiction and nonfiction.
2) National Endowment for the Humanities: Summer Favorites

While this booklist of recommended children's and young adult books
for summer reading is not annotated, it contains the titles of a great
many excellent books. The booklist "represents NEH's long-standing
effort to highlight classic literature for young people from
kindergarten through high school." The booklist is divided by grade
level: Kindergarten to Grade 3, Grades 4 to 6, Grades 7 to 8, and
Grades 9 to 12.

This annotated 2007 booklist from the American Library Association
(ALA) includes the current Newbery, Caldecott, Sibert, Geisel, and
Batchelder Award and Honor books. The reading list for is divided into
categories: Younger Readers, Middle Readers, Older Readers, and All
Ages. It includes children's books and young adult (YA) books.

This 21-page summer reading list is from Dana Hall School in
Massachusetts. It includes required and recommended reading lists from
the school's English, science, and social studies departments. It
includes books for students in grades 6-12. While written for Dana
Hall students, it is an excellent list that includes the classics,
contemporary fiction, historical fiction, mysteries, science fiction
and fantasy, social studies books, and science books, among others.
5) 2007 Summer Reading Suggestions

The Packer Collegiate Institute in New York City has compiled eleven
annotated grade level booklists of children's books and young adult
books. The lists are "based on the grade level the student will be
entering after the summer." A variety of genres are included. The
booklists for the elementary level also include books to read
together. The booklists for the upper grades are subdivided and also
include nonfiction.
6) Get a Clue @ Your Library Reading List

The American Library Association's 2007 summer reading program theme
is "Get a Clue @ Your Library." This thematic 25-page annotated summer
reading list comes from Sally Snyder, Coordinator of Children and
Young Adult Library Services for the Nebraska Library Commission. It
includes books for young children through older teens.
7) Manhattan Beach Unified School District Summer Reading Lists: 2007

The Manhattan Beach Unified School District in California provides
annotated summer reading lists by grade level for 2007. The lists are
for students entering Grades 1-2, 3, 4-5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12.
8) 2007 Suggested Reading List for Rising Sixth Graders

If your child will be starting sixth grade in the fall, this is an
excellent list for you to use. It is annotated and includes both
fiction and nonfiction. The list was compiled by the Instuctional
Services division of the Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia.
9) RIF's 2007 Summer Booklist

This booklist from Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) includes books for
ages 6-8, 9-12, and 13+. The list is divided into four categories:
Adventure, Fantasy, Humor, and Mystery. Some of the books on the list
are annotated and include reader reviews.

categories of recently published books: Picture Books, Younger
Fiction, Intermediate Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, Folklore, Poetry,
