Every day I ride by the High School parking lot on my way out of town,
either to ride the road or the gravel. What about meeting me in the
south parking lot at 5:30 p.m. each day if you're interested in riding
and training. Let's get something started here! I ride road,
mountain, cross, gravel grinders, single speed. I also travel to
races. You might as well join me for conversation.

By the way, I usually ride rain or shine. I have two mottos:

There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.

I don't pick my race weather so I can't choose my training weather.

Sweet!! I will be available...I have to work till 5 this week so that is cutting it close.

Check out this ride calender. I have some others who rarely join me but I keep hoping. If you sign up then I can make you an admin also so you can add/plan rides to it as well. I can join Friday for sure. Today is maybe and Thursday is out due to evening speech practice.

I have a commitment tonight but this is the last Wednesday night
commitment for the remainder of the summer. Let's meet tomorrow night
in the High School parking lot. Wind dictates direction.

Thursday night I have an evening practice from 6 to 8 pm. (but I only have this week and next thursday before those are done.) I brought my bike to school today and barring a thunderstorm, I will ride tonight about 5:30 from the Hs. If you can't make it ok but I will just try to be at the hs at 5:30 most weeknights when I ride.
Thursday afternoon at 3:30 or asap I will ride.

if you go to velocal and join the group then we can schedule when we are available and you can see my training availability.
Do you ride through Hesston? I might have seen you the other day...what color kit do you wear?

I will check out Velocal, thanks.

I will also try and be available each night at 5:30 p.m. at the high school.

I ride in many different colors (red Clif Bar, red/white/black Hammer Nutrition, black Skull, purple K-State, multicolor InMotion, etc).  I rode through Hesston on the 30 mile loop last Saturday morning so it might have been me.

If I can make it tonight, I sure will.  Otherwise, I'll just post here in case others want to join us.

Remember 5:30 today is ride at the NHS parking Lot. The wind is really supposed to be blowing hard! Just means that it will be an easy ride back home! 8 am on Saturday another ride starting from NHS. I hope some of you(any) can make it.

I'm looking forward to making 5:30 today.

Saturday I have a commitment at 8:30 in Wichita so I'll be riding
later in the day. Sunday, I'm racing.

Sweet!. Let me know when you are riding Saturday, I can adjust the ride time for the group (especially if nobody else commits to the 8 am time) Good luck on Sunday. Where you racing? How do you get into those?

tarmac.rider

I'll probably ride closer to 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
I'll post from my phone when I'm getting close. If you're waiting,
check here and I'll post up.

As for racing, I go to www.kscycling.org and check out the calendar
for rides, both road and mountain (and eventually CX). Then it's just
the entry. Sunday has two opportunities: a road race in Leavenworth
(which I was going to do but my schedule won't allow it), and a
mountain bike race at Wilson Lake State Park.

As a beginner to the racing scene, I have the advantage of ignorance
so I'll just register for anything and go see what the big deal is.
It's kind of fun because there's no fear of the course and no
expectation that I'm going to do well/poor.

I almost got knocked my bike by the wind on the way home from school just now. Not sure if I want to hit the road in this wind. Might push me into or off of the road/cars...I am going to see what wind is doing about 515 or 5:30. I might do a short spin into wind and then back. Not sure if I want to hit a long ride but I hope it calms some.

I've been thinking about this all day, too. I thought about waiting
to see if it dies down closer to evening. Weather.com says the wind
is at 43 mph but won't really reduce much until after nightfall. You
want to trade work straight south into the wind on S. Kansas and see
how far we get?

Planning on a ride at 5:30 pm today leaving from the south Parking lot of NHS. Direction depends on wind. Wind is supposed to be light.

Ride tonight for those interested leaving HS parking lot at 5:30. If you are late, I am headed west toward Halstead RD.(so try an catch up) West wind predicted. I am going to try 12th west to Halstead rd and then north to Old DUtch ave and then OLD dutch to K15 (or ridge) then south to Newton. Not sure how far that is but gonna try it anyway.

I'm in. That loop, using K-15 as the return is, around 35 miles.
It's a good route. I've done it many times.

Ok. 35 would be a few more than I did Sunday but I need to log some longer rides. Cool, anyone else out there come on down. If you want to do a shorter route, you could just turn around at Halstead road and head back to Newton. That is around 20 miles.
See you tonight Tarmac...

I did 45 miles today but frustrated by wind an temps. Also annoyed with the lack of paved east west roads off of Halstead RD. Had to go all the way to Bentley. Had to backtrack way more than I thought I was going to. So ride took me almost 4 hours of real time, and doubled the time I told my wife I would be gone....so....I am in trouble. Two days of eating way too much fatty food without any riding made we want to get in a big number today.

53 miles...12th street to Halstead road and took that north to Old dutch but decided that I was only 4 miles from Moundridge and why not go on north...I was looking for a paved road to Goessel but just kept going north...I was 6 miles south of hwy 56 when I finally found an east paved road. co rd 445..Pretty nice road especially since I was not riding against the wind. Motored east at a nice clip till I got to ridge road...(called something else in McPherson county). I went south for few miles until I found Goessel rd. Paydirt!! well it was paved and headed to Goessel. Only problem was 1 mile out of the town it turns to gravel...well more of a hybrid of gravel with really shitty paved road. The dirt portions were more comfortable but not by much...Headed back on K15...Hitting 24 to 30 mph most of the way...got home and I was DEVASTATED!!! It has been almost 3 hours and I still feel pretty bad. I needed a big ride and this was it.

That's a good ride, especially given today's wind out of the
northwest. I rode dirt today as I've gone tubeless on my singlespeed
and I wanted to check it out for the first time. It was awesome. I
put in 25 ultimately. That was at 8:00 this morning when it was still
in the 40's. I'm probably going to do it again but try to get forty
on dirt. I rode Friday afternoon and got 25.

Your ride is in just two or three weeks, isn't it?

I hate headwind on way home....Hey I am looking for a 26 mm clamp  stem for 1 1/8 threadless. Not sure of the length (100 or less maybe) wanna try one out to replace my adjustable stem. The stem creaks (and bends) like crazy and I want to test out anything really before I buy one...Some are really cheap but don't want to buy an angle/size combo just to find out it sucks for my riding position.

Yes thanks to Tarmac and Nathan for kicking my ass pretty good. Just shy of 32 around 18 mph..that is 2 mph quicker than I have ever done that ride and 15 minutes faster.
RE:Century Rose HIll...I have a former student and my wife's employee who is getting married Saturday and so I am lets say committed on Saturday. Keep updating us on ride info from your sources. Amazing how much it helps to have someone encourage you when on a ride. I thought I was out of gas after that brief time up front on the east leg.  Tarmac's coaching is much appreciated!!  Also Nathan if you have a day (other than Saturday) to try out that ride to Cassoday again. Looks like a little over 80 miles round trip. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (or today I guess). I will go alone if you (or anyone else) can't go. Just let me know. I probably won't ride that for time but rather survival..LOL.

I would love to ride this weekend, but my holiday weekends seem to
turn into family weekends. I was booked with out consult by my wife
that I will be busy until Monday. If the weather is good I will
gladly ride.
