justgot myself 6700xt to upgrade my PC. Got AMD r5 3600. I know that 650w is recommended, and I got exactly 650w. But do you guys think it will run ok? And should I upgrade my PSU as well? Also planning on upgrading my ram with two sticks 8gb each.
So, yeah, like @hawkeye said 650W is plenty enough as long as it's not some ultra cheap nobrand PSU. The recommendations are typically higher than the hardware actually needs because they are taking into account that some people might run cheaper, less reliable PSUs so as long as yours is decent enough you're good.
I want to upgrade the original 310w PSU to allow for an upgraded GPU. I need help identifying an HP PSU (at least 550w, but pref 650w) that will fit in this HP form (slightly larger than SFX). Anyone out there know what part I should be trying to get? Or where I can look to identify it myself? Had no luck finding answers thus far online.
There is a 500-watt power supply that is compatible with your motherboard with HP p/n: L05757-800, which can be purchased online -via eBay and other eCommerce sites. To my knowledge, there are no other higher wattage, HP-proprietary power supplies available for your desktop.
Which means using an additional synced (external) ATX power supply to power any graphics card you want, like I applied it to a number of HP desktop upgrade projects, such as an HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF: Solved: Upgrading HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF - HP Support Community - 8545942.
I wanted to pick up a third tungsten light to compliment the 1K and the 650w. I am mainly going to use it to light talent. I was thinking of getting either a 1K Fresnel or another 650w Fresnel. Originally, I was thinking a 1K Fresnel but a scrim will NOT FIT in the 1K if I'm using a Soft Box, so that might be too much light on the talent.
Isn't it always better to have a more powerful light and then have the ability to cut down? I'm assuming that by squeezing in a 1 stop Scrim, the 1K will essentially become a 500 watt, is that correct?
A fresnel is a bad choice to use with a soft box as it's more geared towards hard light applications such as shafts and what not. An open face light is best for sox boxes as it fills up the entire box evenly where as a fresnel will create a spot in the center. I use a larger chimera soft box with a 1K TOTA light and it looks amazing as a key for interviews or whatever.
In general though you're right about going for a larger light and then taking it down. For example, investing in an Arri 2K fresnel is a much better choice than a 1K fresnel because you have the option to use a 1K bulb inside the 2K unit so you can take it down without even using a dimmer or scrims. So it just make more sense to go that route when possible. I'm assuming you can do the same with a blonde but I'm not 100% on whether there are 1K buibs for those.
To note : If I cant get the 650w power supply because it has 6pin+2 pin adapters ill have to buy the corsair hx 620w model which does have true 8 pin pci express adapters.... The problem with this power supply is that on the 12v rail, it has three way fyunctionability. It has three 12v rails with 18 amps on each rail. Now my graphics card needs 22amps on the 12v rail and im not sure how it works with the combined three 12volt rails.b The TX 650w has one dedicated 12v rail with 50 amps on it and is perfect but I have to solve the problem above before I can get it.....
I haven't noticed any problems with my current 550w power supply, but I did just add another 2 hard drives (and accidentally killed another one at the same time) and with more possible in the future I am thinking it might just not be enough. I think looking at the calculators it came out to be that I was currently using right around 550w.
I think I've read that it's good to have a little bit more overhead, but I'm not sure. So 650w or 750w? Currently I've been looking at Seasonic and Evga. Is it the CX line to stay away from for Corsair?
Yep my Corsair AX760 fan has never been on. I had to literally turn on the switch to make sure it really works. I'm guessing with my Case fans blowing air across my PSU its never gotten warm enough to warrant auto turning on. Been running solid for a couple of years with no noticeable issues.
