Of major importance to current customers of Kaspersky online protection, the ban also extends to security updates that keep its protection current. Soon, Kaspersky users will find themselves unprotected from the latest threats.
Current Kaspersky users have until September 29, 2024 to switch to new online protection software. On that date, updates will cease. In fact, the Department of Commerce shared this message with Kaspersky customers:
As providers of online protection ourselves, we believe every person has the right to be protected online. Of course, we (and many industry experts!) believe McAfee online protection to be second to none, but we encourage every single person to take proactive steps in securing their digital lives, whether with McAfee or a different provider. There is simply too much at stake to take your chances. The nature of life online today means we are living in a time of rising cases of online identity theft, data breaches, scam texts, and data mining.
(i) This news follows the 2017 ban on using Kaspersky software on government devices. (ii) That ban alleged that Russian hackers used the software to steal classified materials from a device that had Kaspersky software installed. (iii) Kaspersky has denied such allegations.
Yes. In addition to barring new sales or agreements with U.S. persons from July 20, the ban also applies to software updates. Like all online protection software, updates keep people safe from the latest threats. Without updates, the software leaves people more and more vulnerable over time. The update piece of the ban takes hold on September 29. With that, current users have roughly three months to get new online protection that will keep them protected online.
Scam Protection that helps protect you against the latest scams via text, email, QR codes, and on social media. Also, should you accidentally click, web protection blocks sketchy links that crop up in searches and sites.
Social Privacy Manager that helps you adjust more than 100 privacy settings across your social media accounts in only a few clicks. It also protects privacy on TikTok, making ours the first privacy service to protect people on that platform. For families, that means we now cover the top two platforms that teens use, TikTok and YouTube.
3) Identity theft checker: This feature allows users to check for identity theft using mobile number (for any country one belongs to) & email. Additionally, it continuously checks for data leaks for mobile number and email in real time and provides update if a leak is found.
4) HDD/SSD checker: This feature enables users to assess the lifespan of their HDD/SSD by monitoring drive health and temperature in real-time. It provides comprehensive details of all installed HDD/SSD.
Received. Some of them exists already in the product, albeit in different forms (application updates, OneClick cleanup; Antitracker exists but it seems it does not exactly overlap; about ID theft I cannot say, it is not a feature I know). I particularily like the disk health feature, which is definitely something we should try, and improve the application update to include more than the current list we have.
In addition to one-click cleanup functionality, users should have the option to add folders or files for deletion during the cleanup process. This would allow users to target specific locations such as different temporary files location and the prefetch folder for removal in my case. Furthermore, the tool should provide options for wiping free space using various algorithms to ensure secure deletion of data.
uBlock-like extensions is a sensitive topic, especially with the new Chrome V3 manifest (and not only) which changed the whole game. Also, this is not anymore a security feature, and one ad-using company can object to blocking of their ads on a website - although annyoing for some users, they are not considered (unless malware) a security problem but rathera commercial nuisance. On this one I'm afraid such a feature proposal should go thru legal because I cannot asses all the details on this one.
Most antimalware vendors offer three security suites for Windows: antivirus, internet security, and total security. Bitdefender, however, has five, ranging from antivirus plus to ultimate security. While each Bitdefender suite has similar features, higher tiers offer additional ones.
Let's focus on identity theft protection. While businesses might benefit, users find Bitdefender's standalone products congested. Other security suites bundle all features into their total security package, but Bitdefender splits them across different suites, even transferring some to its online central account, which is inconvenient.
Kaspersky has released upgraded versions of its iOS and Android mobile applications, focusing on enhanced security, privacy, and improved usability. These updates aim to offer users a higher level of protection in the digital sphere, catering to the growing need for robust cybersecurity measures on mobile devices, which currently account for nearly 60% of global web traffic according to StatCounter data.
The iOS app now includes several new features such as a Security Scan button, a Private Browsing option, and a Siri Shortcut feature. The Security Scan button allows users to check all security systems on their smartphones and enable optimal protection modes, which may include recommendations to activate VPN, Anti-Phishing, and other security features.
The Private Browsing extension for the Safari browser prevents tracking systems from collecting users' activity data and blocks banner ads, including potentially malicious ones, through Safari's Anti-Banner element. The Siri Shortcut feature improves usability by allowing users to turn their VPN on and off with voice commands, available for consumer solutions equipped with a VPN, including Kaspersky VPN standalone, Kaspersky Premium, and Kaspersky Plus.
For both iOS and Android platforms, privacy protection has been enhanced with a new Identity Theft Check feature. This feature enables users to track leaks from accounts linked to a specific phone number and take immediate protective actions, such as changing passwords on compromised accounts. Identity Theft Check is currently available exclusively in Kaspersky Premium, which can be activated after purchase on the Kaspersky website. Later in the year, Kaspersky Premium will also be available directly within the apps.
Another notable update is the introduction of Dark Mode on both iOS and Android platforms, providing a more comfortable viewing experience, which is an important aspect of user experience (UX) design. Mobile devices require protection measures that are as robust as those available on desktop computers, given the substantial amount of time users spend online on their smartphones.
Kaspersky's mobile apps incorporate a comprehensive range of features for protection, including anti-phishing, VPN, anti-spyware, online privacy, identity protection, and antivirus. These updates reflect Kaspersky's continuous efforts to improve its mobile cybersecurity solutions. The company's commitment to high-quality protection has been recognised by independent testing organisations such as AV-Comparatives, which named Kaspersky's consumer product line as the Product of the Year in 2023.
Marina Titova, Vice-President of Consumer Product Marketing at Kaspersky, commented, "As we spend a significant amount of time online on our smartphones, mobile devices require protection that is as strong as, if not stronger, than that available on desktops. We are continuously developing and improving our mobile apps for iOS and Android, incorporating a wide range of functions for comprehensive protection, including anti-phishing, VPN, anti-spyware, online privacy, identity protection and of course, antivirus. The superior quality of our protection is further validated by independent testing organisations like AV-Comparatives, which recognised our consumer product line as Product of the Year in 2023."
Cybersecurity company Kaspersky recently announced its new and reimagined product range which has been divided into three types and is available on a subscription basis. The plans available are, Kaspersky Standard, Kaspersky Plus and the Kaspersky Premium. The reinvented product line promises an enhanced user interface and experience across multiple platforms. The company, with its new product line, also introduced a variety of features that go beyond providing basic digital protection to consumers.
A set of performance tools including Quick Startup, PC Speed-up and Disk Space Cleanup tools are also included in the subscription. For gamers, the game mode will be switched on automatically the moment they start gaming. Similarly, if you are streaming movies on your PC or are working, the Do Not Disturb mode will be switched on so that you get an uninterrupted experience.
A data leak checker will also be available for Kaspersky Plus users. This feature will monitor the internet and dark web and will warn users in case their data has been compromised in any form and will also provide recommendation to the steps that can be taken.
The plan also includes a Password Safety Status, which can enhance password protection by checking the safety status of passwords and their susceptibility to leaks. Yet another feature of the plan is the ability for users to see the devices that are connected to their home network. Hence, you will be able to keep tabs on the devices that are using your home WiFi and in case some additional devices are connected to the network, you can easily figure that out.Kaspersky Premium features
