U.S. Air Force
After being deployed in Afghanistan for the last
seven months, a U.S. Air Force doctor returned home to Sacramento,
Calif., last week and met his newborn son for the first time.
Air Force officials have announced the recipients
of the 2017 General Larry O. Spencer Innovation Award.
The U.S. Air Force may have conducted a drill
targeting North Korea involving B-52 bombers last month.
The U.S. Air Force is trying collect samples of
ethnic Russian DNA. If history is a guide, the purposes of this new U.S. program
are highly nefarious.
The 53rd Wing's 513th Electronic Warfare Squadron
at Eglin AFB, Fla., was awarded the Outstanding Scientist/Engineer Team
Award.
Various Air Force aircraft are scheduled to perform
aerial flyovers at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., this
weekend.
The Illinois Air National Guard is
getting a new chief of staff. Col. William Robertson has commanded the
182nd Airlift Wing in Bartonville.
The U.S. Air Force has made Gowen Field Air
National Guard Base, Idaho, that shares the Boise Airport's two runways, a
finalist for a wing of F-35s.
First Lt. Debbie Gorby, of the Grand Rapids,
Mich., Civil Air Patrol squadron, says her group has already received a
gift from the X-Rite Corp. that will allow the squadron to place wreaths in
December on every veteran's grave at the Grand Rapids Veterans Cemetery.
And the Knights of Columbus of Marshall and the
Marshall Rotary Club invite all veterans to the seventh annual Veterans Day
breakfast on Friday morning, Nov. 10th, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in
Marshall, Mo. The breakfast is free and will honor those who have served and
those currently serving America. Serving will be from 7:15-8:45 a.m., with doors
opening at 7 a.m. The program following breakfast will be a presentation of the
colors by the Saline County Civil Air Patrol Cadet Color Guard. There will be a
recognition of veterans and service organizations. A program of music will
be presented by Marshall second graders who will present several patriotic
musical songs and will traditionally greet all the veterans present. All
veterans are invited to attend.
U.S. Public Health Service
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety
and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert due to
concerns that some poultry products may have Listeria contamination.

Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. David Shulkin
delivered the 2017 Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Distinguished Lecture at the
Harvard Law School today.
This was the fourth annual event in the DAV's
Distinguished Speaker Series, which provides a forum for national leaders to
address the critical issues facing our nation's disabled veterans and to engage
in conversation with the local community.
The series is co-hosted by the Veterans Legal
Clinic at the Legal Services Center of the Harvard Law School and the Harvard
Law School Armed Forces Association.
